I have the storage cup and I ran the cables from my radio to where my ipod plugs in. Then I made a padded cushion that holds the ipod in place. If anyone wants a picture I can post one. It holds the ipod really well.

Pictures would be really nice. I'm still in the planning phase of adding a CarPC to my crossfire and would have to run the very same cables from the radio to the back of the car.

BTW, how hard would I have to pull on the trim plates around the shift lever? I'm a little bit afraid of breaking stuff since my dealer only has the whole "Carbon" set which costs something like $500.

Hakan

what car are those seats out of... in your base crossfire? or did you just have the cloth seats covered in leather?

wow... talk about heavy wear next to the seatbelt area. the dealer needs to warranty your console.

Nice setup - how about close-up of Ipod - how it sits in cushion.
It still seems like it would be awkward to view Ipod while driving,
what kind of radio?

I use my cup holder everyday. I put my cardboard coffee cup from wawa in it every morning.
I have not had any problems with it.
Of course I won't put styrofoam in it. lol

I replaced my cupholder with the storage bin today and I'm thrilled about it. It will be much more useful to me this way. I've already created a very workable cupholder of my own so the near useless stock one was expendable. I also like the way it looks.

As an added bonus, in the process, I was finally able to get to the wires that feed the cigarette lighter and now my Sirius radio is hard-wired in. No more cigarette lighter adapter and exposed wires!!! Yay!!!

Thanks for your guidance, danimal. You were right, you gotta pull on that brake handle with all (and I mean ALL) your might. (Now tell me how to get it all the way back on.)

Just a little trick I learned long ago...put just a couple of drops of dishwashing detergent (liquid) on the inside of the cover and it slides right on. Be careful...a little goes a long way...and surprisingly it will still hold tight.

Lift the console up from the front and slide forward. Disconnect any electrical connections and completely remove the console. Lay the console upside down (on a towel) and remove 4 torx screws holding the cup holder in place. Reverse the removal process to reinstall the console.

The storage cup snaps into place from the top of the console and can be done before or after reinstalling it...
Perfect instructions ... Just installed my storage bin this evening. Two additions to the instructions could be added ...

1) Apply a small amount of dish soap on a flat wooden stick, like a popsicle stick and gently slide it between the rubber on the parking brake and the metal of the brake itself. (Don't leave the stick in there.) As you pull the rubber piece the soap will slide between and ease pulling. At least for me it was easier. I tried just pulling it and the combination of friction plus me squeezing it to pull it off made it harder, the soap helped as I got the rubber piece further and further off.

2) Apply another small dab of soap on the metal prior to reinstalling the rubber piece ... it slides on in a snap. I do mean a small dab too ... that's all it needs.

The later wasn't my idea I read it somewhere else on XFF.org.

I'll post a pic ...

I linked to a site from the benzworld.org forum but I don't remember where it is exactly. The storage compartment actually replaces the ash tray, air bag light, and cigarette lighter. You can do a search there and find it, or the next time I run across it, I'll let you know. It looked pretty good actually and seemed much more practical for non-smokers.

Well, I finally got tired of pushing the cup holder closed everytime I shifted gears. Ordered the storage bin from Moparpart.com. Got it in a few days. It sat around the house for a few days because I was dreading the thought of pulling the console out. With the Chrysler National just a few days away, I know it was time. Thanks to the installation instructions and helpful tips from this forum, the job was a BREEZE. Now I can drive to Carlisle without having to close that DAMNED cup holder.

See you in Carlisle - CUP HOLDERLESS.

It's pretty technical, the dealer gave me an instruction sheet for replacement of the cup holder when I did mine. IT would take a good mechanic 1 hour to install this, $400 is really high for something this easy. There are several items to be concern with, boot for emergency brake, power mirror switches and air line for storage lock are tricky and time consuming. Knowing this it should cut the job down to 30 minutes.
The cup holder is a waste of money! on top of that.
