Hi everyone,
i'm Sirio from Milano, Italy.
I have some problems with my 2003 Chrysler Crossfire, naturally aspirated engine.
I have the following dashboard lights always on:
handbrake
brakes
ABS
BAS/EXP
Odometer doesn't work, speedometer doesn't work.
The spoiler is always open.
The engine power limiter comes on at 5000 rpm instead of 6000 rpm.
All these problems started at the same time.
I took the car to the workshop, the mechanics replaced the ABS control unit, but they did not solve the problem and were unable to connect with the control unit diagnostic software.
Does anyone have any ideas to help me?

Milano is a beautiful city with a very good public transportation system and wonderful people.


A failure in the "Traction Control Relay Output" (TCRO) in the RCM means that the ABS module has no power, and that causes these symptoms:

• ABS light on
• BAS/EXP light on
• Odometer doesn't work, speedometer doesn't work.
• The spoiler is always open/up
• The ABS controller will not work or respond to any scanner or diagnostic tool.

I believe that your RCM's TCRO is bad, so put in a new RCM:

You can change this yourself, it plugs in and you need NO tools. It is in the box next to the battery:

Now, try going back to your mechanic that charged you for the prior work, ask him for your original ABS perfectly working control unit, and let us know if he refunded your money. Please, please, next time come here for some help before asking a mechanic to look at it, might save you a lot of money because I don't believe your module will be returned, nor will you get your money back. One thing people do not realize is the amount of factory support there is for most vehicles, and how techs and mechanics rely on service bulletins, information in their community and experience of dealing with the same cars over and over again.

NONE of this applies to the orphaned-by-both-MB-and-Chrysler Crossfire, which numbers only 77,000 cars worldwide. Taking one of these to most dealers/shops is a losing proposition for the owner and the shop you go to.

WIthout this forum, I'd NEVER have bought the second and third cars.

My old abs module is here at my house, I asked the mechanic for it.
He found me the new module, used, in Poland, and had it sent to him.
He warned me that he wasn't sure he could solve the problem, and he left it up to me to try.
Unfortunately I didn't know about this wonderful forum, and I decided to give it a try.
It cost me 350 euros!

 

Yes, I completely agree with you.
I bought my Crossfire in 2005, it was used and had 14,000 km on the odometer and was from 2003.
It now has 95,000 km, in all these years it has given me few problems.
Once 7-8 years ago it didn't start anymore, I took it to FCA (Fiat-chrysler) and they replaced the crankshaft sensor, solving the problem. (before this they changed the fuel pump petrol which was in perfect working order).
This time FCA didn't want to take charge of the car, telling me that they no longer manage them,
So I went around several workshops but no one wanted to take it.
Finally I found this mechanic who took it, but it would have been better if he hadn't :-D
