Whining Noise coming from trunk/rear tires area
We suddenly have a whining noise when the car is running. We can only pinpoint it to the trunk/rear tire area. It's continuous as if there's a motor or something running. The convertible top goes up and down without issue. The back fin opens and closes without issue. Any ideas of what it could be?

With the car running and you hear the noise pull the fuses that power the hydraulic top and those associated with security system. When the noise stops you found your problem.

.
When your pulling fuse(s) troubleshooting, don't forget the vacuum pump for the doors/trunk in the lower bay under all the trim, etc.

Some of the cheaper pumps are noisy.
It wasn't part of the quoted work, but we are going to ask the mechanic to look into it. The car doesn't get driven often or for long distances (it only has 14k original miles) so anything is possible but, like I said, we just got it back from the mechanic for the gas tank so it just seems like that could be the connection and since you brought up the fuel pump without knowing...

Good luck!
without starting the engine ,,turn the key on (no start) if u here the noise,,then open the
gas door remove the cap as u listen again as the pump only runs for 3 to 5 seconds (once the key is on
and the fuel has drained back do it again to be sure that is where the noise is coming from.
the e-vac blower located behind the drivers headlight( that big black thing) if it is going it will Howell..jim
