Default Spare tire

2005 crossfire convertible owner here, what’s the best idea for a spare tire? Fix a flat, tire plugs, or AAA is not a good answer. Has anyone picked themselves up a decent spare somewhere? Like maybe off of an SLK? Thanks

I keep a tire plug kit in my car and a good pump. I have used it and it works for what I need. The sealant can work if the whole is not too big and you have to rotate the tire to evenly spread the product.

Plug kits are the best !!!
The liquid tire sealant destroys the tire pressure sensor ( TPMS) and often will even harden in the tire making is very off balance.
Plus the sealant that came with the Crossfires is so past date it has hardened and cant even be used

yeah it was a blow out so tire sealer would have been of no use, there has to be a better way then a $300 donut on eBay

A $400.00 tire at a decent tire shop? While your at it, a companion on the other side sized the same as the one being replaced. Good luck.

I think the only other solution for a convertible might be "Run Flat" tires.
If you use a donut tire, you will have to make or get another set of lug bolts that are the proper length for that donut. Especially for the rear wheels. If the lug bolts are to long, they will destroy the emergency brakes.

Years ago, I believe there was thread about using a specific MB doughnut tire. I cannot remember if it was for an SLK. You will have to search deep into threads on the forum. Of course, even a doughnut wheel will not fit in roadster trunk.

First always keep good tires on your car, even if you have a spare, you will still need to know how to use the jack and be able to break loose the lug bolts with the tire tool or a breaker bar. Before you take the tire off the car you might as well try fix it with a plug also make sure your air compressors works and know how to use it. I have drove my car for 7 years and with good tires never had a flat. Here's a good tubeless tire repair kit there are cheaper ones out there but not as easy to use :
