Default TPMS sensors

I have a question: if someone is offering original TPMS sensors that have never been installed, do they have a shelf life?

Does the internal battery only work after it has been activated? Or will they be like the car alarm?

thanks
Nelson

I would assume all batteries have a limited life.

I agree with ZERACER. The batteries are self contained with no on/off switch. The day they leave the factory is when the clock starts ticking.

They have a shelf life but remember, you can still get the sensors new from the dealer. That sensor is used in other vehicles. Last time I checked the sensors were about $130 each from the dealer, offer a mail in service for much less https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CwQYcm8sj/

I got the sensors to work. I found new ones on Amazon after visiting the Schrader site. Also there is a PDF by Tire Pressure Sensors By ZH SRT6 who explained which ones to look for.

How did you program them?

The tire store I use was able to program them. When you go to the Schrader site, you can find the TPMS that works and see which machines will work and can program them.

That's cool, they must have cloned them. If the batteries aren't completely dead they can be cloned to have the same ID as the original sensors you had installed. You definatly did your homework.

About 10 years ago Discount Tire replaced my TPMS when they replaced tires. Never got them to work and eventually suggested I take her to the dealer. Nope. Put a piece of black tape over the icon and manually check tire pressure monthly. It is the only non-functioning part on both my Crossfires. Not worth $130 each or even a set for something I can live without.

There is a way to disable the lamp so you do not have to crud up your display on the dash. It involves removing one wire from the connector behind the garage door module assembly top center of windshield. IF your good with a torx socket wrench/screwdriver mentioned in the .pdf in the documents collection. One addition, ppl sometimes using the self/help .pdf in the documents section of the forum to bypass the connector, that turns off the lamp. Make sure it is the CORRECT connector and pin (there is two connectors up there), then PLACE A NOTE (for the next owner) inside the light switch FUSE cover as located in the interior. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I had read up on this a decade ago and decided there was more risk fusking with the Homelite module than applying a 1/2" square of tape. My days of doing more than detailing the Crossfires (and changing headlights, air and cabin filters) are over. The knowledge from engine rebuilding, brake work, suspension is still there from 30-40 years ago but the flexibility is gone. Easier to take them (and my Audi A4 and Maserati Ghibli GranLusso SQ4) to my reliable indie mechanic. All is not lost - I still do maintenance on my 1977 Goldwing.

Amen brother, I feel every twist and crawl, not to mention trying to slide into areas an 18 yr old does with ease...

I got ya, you should have been on the forum when I first joined. The TPMS system has been quite well posted about and it still is costing ppl gobbs of money without it being fixed...

I like the idea you posted about disconnecting at the roof light.

I saw it here in a post in the forum (another example of this great forum). I believe it is also a .pdf in the docs collection. It didn't involve cutting into the car wiring and it is easily reversible. In my opinion, hacking the wiring isn't good for the next owner, marking the door at the ICM (light switch assembly) this way helps as when checking the fuses it comes up & might answer any question about why it may not be working.
