Leafs in fan blower?
So I've been experiencing some vibrations/noises with my AC unit when its turned on to certain levels. I took it to my dealer to for a warranty repair. They claim that this is due to leafs in the fan blower, and that they would need to remove the blower and clean out the leafs….
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has knowledge of the issue? They said it would cost me $75 in labor to pull the blower, clean out the leafs and then replace it. For the time being I requested them NOT to perform the work.
I have a couple questions I was hoping to get some help with…
How hard is it to remove and clean the blower?
Is this something that can create “serious” problems?
Would leafs being “caught” in the fan blower cause a vibration noise/rattle from behind the glove box?
Should I try to do this myself or pay the $75?
Thanks for everyone’s help!!

How did the leafs get into the NHL? I have had leafs in the fan systems of several cars and vans, thru the outside defrost vents, they dry out over the winter and the problem go's away! However if it happened to my Crossfire I would take a different approach and get it fixed.
These are all excellent questions that I'll pose with the technician tomorrow... This is just what they told me, it sounded like BS to me.. but i'll find out more tomorrow...
So just to clarify there is a filter that should block leafs from entering the blower?
Sandgrounder - what approach would you recommend?

I also had leaves trapped which made a rattling noise everytime I turned the fan on. I ended up pulling the fan motor out...not that big of a job. If you open the hood, the plastic cover over the vent intake at the ends are fluted. That's how leaves and especially pined needles in my case were able to work themselves into the fan compartment.
The Cabin filter is after the blower motor on the Xfire. It is easy to remove the Blower. Remove the access panel under the Glove box. 2 screws. Then you will see a square panel on the right with a couple of white or yellow latches. Unplug the wire connector next to this panel and slide these latches and the panel will come loose. The fan is directly above this panel and there are 3 or 4 screws that hold the fan in place. Remove the fan and use a shop vac or similar to vacuum out the debris.
I would also change the cabin filter which is to the left under a rectangular panel with 2 white or yellow slide latches.
Good Luck,
Mike

I seem to have a similar problem where when I turn the blower on it almost sounds like an commercial fan is blowing behind the dash. I've already taken it to service one but, it looks like I'll be returning again.
