Default Oil Filter - Something new!!!

Surfing on the net the other day for items connected with the motorcycle and getting more power (the article I read on the motorcycle claimed 9 hp
9.5 tq gains on an HD), and I ran across this...

2006 SEMA award winner:

http://www.gopurepower.com/

If you go to the 'buying' area, and follow the thread to Mercedes, you end up here...

They do not seem to offer a cartridge type filter. Useless to my Crossfire or Mini...

If you follow the links through Mercedes the filter doesn't look like what we need.
The blurb in the SEMA stuff on the home page says for all MB 1997+ V6 & V8 engines - I don't know how MB engines differ from model to model.
The pic may just be a generic photo - bad marketing if it is - but we're use to that on this forum (not the forum Andrew, but from companies people have dealt with).

I sent them an e-mail asking about drop-in filters. I will share the response when I get it.

Here's the reply they sent me...

Hello Spensley
The Pure Power! Lifetime Drop-in Oil Filter fits Mercedes V6 and V8 Class
112-113 engines. We manufacture another Drop-in that fits the BMW V8
engines. We are expanding our line of Drop-in Filters this year to include
many more brands. Hope this helps you.

Thank you for your interest in Pure Power! Products
Sales Dept.

Is ours the class 112-113 engine?

Yes, ours is the M112. I wonder why they didn't respond to me? I guess they like you better!

Did they quote a price?

I wonder if a new screw-in cap comes with it as well?

Well bobs - they must hate you...

I asked them your questions, and here is the reply...

Good Morning to you
The Pure Power! Lifetime Oil Filter is pictured on the front page of our
website
www.gopurepower.com however, I just tried to place an order for
this filter online and it seems someone forgot to include it in the order
process. For the time being it would be best to order via phone
1-800-750-0827 or fax (714) 894-6344. We are experiencing very high volume
on our phones due to several magazine article that have mentioned us. If
you do not get an answer please leave a message and we will call you back.

Thanks
Fran Cyrus

It doesn't exactly fill me with confidence - I may change my mind in another 4,500 miles when I need to change the oil!

I've just ordered one of these for the bike.
I'll let you know my findings/opinions etc. once it's fitted and I've tried it.

I am not so sure about this product. Reminds me of the Blitz SS mesh air filters. They did not do such a good job preventing contamination.

Attached is the article reviewing this product - as mentioned on post #1 it's for bikes.
However... just for everybody on the forum that says "Show me a dyno"...
There is one attached.
Take it for what you want.

I applaud the testers for draining the oil and filling with fresh oil and a new stock filter to establish a baseline. Much better than a number of other magazines have done in the past.

I would have liked to see a dyno run with the just pure power filter and the Brand X oil in addition to the other dyno runs.

However the article does not address my main concern with this filter. Which is not HP/TQ increase but one of filtration. I would like to see a test with a lab report from a reputable source like Blackstone labs.

Agreed, it was a well written article. I poked around a bit and tried to find the filtration capability of the media and couldn't. A good paper filter will clean down to 10 microns or so. Anyone know the rating for this one?

Speaking of alternative filters, there was a forum member (DynamicS?) that installed a system that used toilet paper rolls as the filter medium. Anyone have an update on how that experiment is going?
