Angry Changing headlight bulbs aaarrrggghhh

Any one have any secret on how to change the headlamp bulbs. They must have used Tatoo from Fantasy Island to get into the small space. The H7 bulbs are a pain in the _SS to change.

Work carefully, go slow, and be patient. It can be done! The most common thing you have to worry about is getting the lamp seated all the way. There's kind of a "false seat", too. It will feal like the lamp is all the way in and the spring clip will even close, but when you turn on the lights they will only illuminate about 2 feet in front of you!

Do the driver's side first because the passenger side doesn't have a lot of room.

If you really get stuck you can pull the entire headlight assembly out, but that involves removing the front tires to get at the bolts underneath.

use a small mirror to see where the clip and bulb fit properly, I did this and saved alot of time and grief.

Thumbs up Re: Changing headlight bulbs aaarrrrggghhh

Thanks Guys great tips, yahh I know first hand about the darn clip it came off and I had a time getting the sucker back on.

Even was down to removing headlamp, but agai hard to reach bottom retaining bolts even with wheel off car..aaaarrrghh

It is hard to stuff the bulb back in, thought Id' give it a rest and try later as I was coming up with a new dictionary worth of colourful metaphores, actually was sounding a lot like a Klingon. I'm french Canadian the colourful words kind of come easily when frustrated...lol

Going to use the mirror, wish me luck.

OMG! When I changed out my bulbs I wanted to sell the car haha. It was such a pain! whats even worse to change are the small bulbs at the top of the headlight. you have to be a contortionist to change those.

I have found the following "tools" 100% necessary when changing these bulbs...

1. Mechanics telescopic Mirror

2. 2 Double Gin & Tonics... One before and one after...

Brother, I feel your pain. Just replaced both low and high beam lamps. Driver's side not too bad, but passenger side high beam was a mother! I know it is not the way the manual tells you to replace that bulb, but I found it easier to remove the coolant resevoir (after much coercing). I had plenty of room to change the bulb. Not easy no matter how you do it. I did use a mirror and had a couple of brewskies after to ease the pain.

Yep! I did the same for the passenger side. Also used a mirror to see the bulb and clip. However, a needle nose pliers worked much better than a brewskie to disconnect the clip and remove the bulb. Not so hard if you take your time and don't drop anything. Now, I hope the Sylvania Ultras last longer than some of the reports I have seen?

I am not sure if other SRT-6 owners had a different experience than me but it was actually harder to change the driver's side for me. There is a black box in front of where the low beam bulb goes in. I had to remove the power supply from it to make a little more room. It makes it impossible to pull the harness out. It took me almost an hour.

I have been doing some mods to the lights and it is not too hard to pull the headlight. There is a couple of clips on the top, remove the inboard ones from the headlight assembly and there are two fasteners on the bottom of the headlight assembly that you remove from under the car. Then you pull the entire assy out and have at it. I have used hemostats (bent) and a mirror also and thats too much fighting as Iam putting in 4 Xenon lamp assys and mounting the power supplies under the headlights to keep the installation cleaner. Wink Re: Changing headlight bulbs aaarrrggghhh

It's simple, remove the rubber cover, unhook the wires, slide the spring over and lift it up, and the bulb almost falls out. Reverse to install it.

Yeah man just unhook the harness and place aside and bingo....I can change mine out in less than 10mins for both bulbs.

yeah what u do is this
step 1.take off the little cover on the far side of each for low beams
step 2.detach the metal clamp from the bulb housing
step 3. snap the bulb from the socket careful not to tear the wiring
step4. insert new H7U bulb for low beam into the wiring socket
step 5. snap metal clamp onto headlight housing
step 6. replace cover
Now it takes some little hands to get into the passenger side area u might have to move the hose there or you can either take the headlight out but you dont have to just use a small pair of hands i cut myself about 6 times changing the bulbs

That was the last time someone answered a dead thread, the last actual question was Feb '08.
Maybe the guy is still waiting.

The trouble is those instructions are not the best way to change a bulb. It's easier to separate the bulb and plug before unclipping the wire clip and to leave the wire clip in place at the hinge end.
