Car on jacks for a week
I am in the process of painting my calipers and have the car on 4 jack stands. Is it safe for me to leave it on them for a week? could it damage the frame?
Thank you. I put them in the exact spots that are indicated under the car. I love cars but am very nervous when it comes to doing any work on them. I am nevous just painting the calipers. I bet with some direction I could change my rotors and pads but I am not too sure.
A guy in my office has an 05 Boxster – he says that Porsche specifically recommends not to jack the car for any extended period of time as it will eventually lead to suspension to sag. Theory is that the suspension is built to support the weight of the car and not to hang freely with wheels/tires on the end of it. Might want to remove the wheels and tires if storing over the winter on jacks? I don’t know – just a thought – I drive mine year round (much less in the winter, but once every week or two anyway).

I would agree that if you lifted the car completely off the ground it would be as bad as not using jacks at all. In CrossfireRoadster case where he has the wheels off to paint the calipers he won't have an issue, but if you are storing the car for extended periods of time like RPM, crossfirefun, crossfirefrank, and myself you do need to unload the suspension or it will sag over time. What I do for storage is put rubber mats under the wheels and then jack the car up just to the point where the suspension is sitting at about half travel or in a neutral position.
