Oil Filter Alternative
Have used K&N on my last 5 vehicles including Silverado SS and they have a oil filter that fits with Crossfire.. I consider that this would be the best we can buy.. http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=HP-7004
Take a look, uncertain of cost though, will know when I'm due in couple of months.

Shopped the K&N oil filters the other day. K33HP-7004 is the one we need. It is hard to find any prices below $16 delivered and that was through Amazon. If anyone knows of a better deal, let me know. I am using K&N air filters (ordered through Amazon) and would like to have the K&N oil filters as well. I am aware that the WIX filters can be had for as little as $10 delivered (ordering 5 at a time).

OEM or K&N going on mine, I think engine is the last place to cut back on. Just my thoughts

I have been told that the WIX 57078 is the same filter as the Mann HU718/5X. These are both fleece type filters. I have also seen posts that the Mann filters comes as OEM. I just prefer the K&N.
I'm going to hold back and wait for a sale on K&N oil filters. I don't need it until spring so I can be patient. I picked up some Mobil 1 0w 40 today for around $5 a quart plus tax. A oil change is sure costly on a Crossfire. About the cheapest you can get the supplies for is over $56! A Chrysler dealer will get over $100 for a change. I have one free oil change coming as part of my purchase of my new 05. I am nervous about letting the dealer touch it!! I had bad experiences years ago in NY where dealers were charging customers for oil changes that they never did (car would sit untouched). I picked up a habit of marking the old filter with a marker before hand. Can't do that on a Crossfire!

just when I thought I had found a deal on oil filters my dreams are dashed
I paid $25 from the local MB dealership, but the service was fantastic and the counter person said he likes OUR Crossfires
. As we have the same motor as the sprinter, He is sure that engine parts will be around for many years to come

Think about it what would you think if surgeon patched you up with kleenex and piece of scotch tape

Hi Guys,
FYI, I have a 99 ML430 and it costs $160 for a glorified oil change from MB dealer. So I've been doing it myself for the last 6 years using MB oil filter at first, then changed to MANN filters and now Purolator. MB did not use fleece in their filter until about 3 or so years ago. The part counter guy told me if I change my oil every 5K miles or so, paper filter would just be fine. IMO, the Purolator filters look better than MANNs since they have plastic end caps instead of glued up paper element. BTW, must have the $20 MB oil filter tool to do the job.
I did an oil change in my 06 Xfire, same exact setup as the ML, guess what the dealer used Purolator filter in there. So I don't feel bad using a Purolator.
Have a wonderful day.

Utah-kat, I think your parts guy is doing you a disservice. If you change oil according to the FSS (I assume you have on on your '99) you should get almost twice the mileage out of you oil than you do now. Just make sure you use the MB fleece filter if you do. They changed to the fleece filter because the paper filters couldn't last as long as the oil did.
It would be cheaper to buy the fleece fileter and change oil according to the FSS, (which is usually at 9,000 - 12,000 miles for me) than to use the paper one and change it at 5,000.
Of course, if you don't have the FSS then it's every 7,500. Carry on!

I really don't see the financial big deal about using fleece filters. Everything I have read says the same thing that a fleece filter is superior to a paper one. If I'm spending a fortune on the best oil (Mobil 1 0W 40) why be a cheapskate on the filter? If you go to fleetfilter you can buy a fleece for as cheap as $9 and something apiece (the WIX). My only thing is that since I went the K&N route on the air filters I decided to go K&N on the oil filters. Even the K&N are only $16 on Amazon. Most dealers would charge you more than that for the paper ones!!!

I wouldn't suggest using a NAPA GOLD filter. I used two (Changed one at 3500 miles) and when they came out they looked like they had been squaushed by the oil monstor. Must be they are just a tad too long to fit correctly.
