Position 0 is horizontal with the Chrysler logo on the fob facing up.
Position 1 is a quarter turn clockwise so that the logo on the fob is facing to the driver's right.
I had no problem moving the key in any direction.
Pay attention to the orientation of the key fob when the key and tumbler come out so you can
put them in the same position to go back in when you're putting it back together.
When you get the key turned to position 1 leave it there. Take the black retainer ring off with the
key in position 1. Do not allow the key to move.

Do not forget to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before you
start taking anything apart!

Now that I see your other post on this thread I'm puzzled.
Have you started taking the car apart?
OR
Are you trying to put it back together?
If your key is stuck, what position is it stuck in?

Is the sticky ignition an issue in the 2007 and 2008 models as well. The post references 2004 thru 2006. Just wondering.

It is my understanding that 07s and 08s do not have this over-engineered problem causer.

That seems to be the conclusion reached by those who have torn into an 07 or 08.

That makes the fix more difficult.
I suggest you contact Travish. He's knowledgeable and also lives in the Greensboro area. Perhaps
he'll be willing to help you. Send him a private mail.
If you can't get that key to move out of position 0 you're going to have to do the sticky key mod the
hard way with a drill.

If there is anybody within shouting distance of Greensboro, N.C. I really need some help on my sticky key fix. I called around and people are afraid to do it. I can't because I don't have the right tools

I'd be happy to do it for you, but that's 500 miles each way for me.
You might IM Squirrel Crusher in Charlotte and see if you could run down the 90 miles to there and have him do it.

So is the spring entirely useless?

Yes - that is correct. I have driven for years without it and there is no difference since removal.

Are you asking if you need a new housing? No, just drill the pin out to remove the housing from the steering column then take the cover off to remove the spring and pin pictured below then put the cover back on then reinstall the housing into the steering column.

Okay so I took the ignition pin out along with the spring because I had the sticky key. I hooked everything up and the car will turn over once and act like it wants to start but then die? What do I do now? Help!
