just as a point of preventive maintenance, do you think a regular spritz of silicone spray inside the lock would be beneficial?

I did my car today & reused my ignition by removing the spring & pin. Everything is working fine & the only trouble I had was reinstalling the black collar. But after much frustration I did it. I was wondering if it is necessary to remove the black ring & tumbler assembly to take out the complete ignition unit? If you are reusing your ignition & not replacing any parts & only removing the spring & pin? The instructions & pictures made a difficulty job easy.

Yep, same part. You will find that almost every part for the Crossfire is much more expensive from Chrysler than it is for Mercedes. Chrysler cannot sell any cars, so they rape you in the service department.

It is not uncommon at all to have a part that Chrysler wants 500 or more for, to be less than a hundred on the internet or the mercedes dealer.

Just wondering wouldn't this problem be covered under the warranty?

Hey everyone, just wanted to say thanks to everybody who contributed to this thread. Got the part out and made the free mod so it never happens again. All it cost was the tow back to my place...YAY!! Thanks again!

I'm fixing mine on Saturday. The key has been sticking on almost every start since I bought the car last week.

A big THANK YOU to rekcah for taking the time to illustrate this process with pictures!

Thanks for reading whole post unlike the previous poster (jivemiguel).
I figure it only takes a few minutes to read through and figure out what to do. In a matter of just an hour I was able to figure out what is causing the problem with my car shutting down (RCM), this sticky key problem, my blower motor randomly turning on whatever speed it chooses, and now just need to figure out that popping out of first problem. Thanks to this forum I have saved a ton of money and headaches trying to figure out what is wrong and how to fix it!

Thanks again the detailed instructions made it a 20 min repair.
I would have taken me about an hour if I had to take my time and figure it out.
So I owe the forum 40 min.

I love this place.
