Any recommendations for places to order parts? I'm replacing this starter. I checked it using the directions in the repair manual and it doesn't get continuity where it's suppose to. Crazy it worked on the tester at the store. Also will an aftermarket starter, not OEM, be fine? Mine looks just slightly different.

RockAuto has a new one for the 2004 SLK320 ( same as ours ) for $69 no core :
More Information for POWER SELECT/WPS 17852N

A OEM Bosch will set you back around $250, the el cheapo above has a 12 month warranty, the Bosch has a lifetime warranty.

You decide ( would you put a cheap *** starter in a fighter jet ? )

Personally, I'd do the wire fix I mentioned in the previous post and call it a day.
( If you don't want to mess with the soldering, you could always drill and tap a hole in that plate and use a double eyelet cable )

Thanks for all your guys help. Got a Bosch starter ordered. Hopefully it'll be here close to when tighed gets my RCM back to me. Then hopefully it all goes back together and starts right up! Then I can work the non essential issues like the passenger window, spoiler and left head light. Those should be no problem after this mystery no start

You can't go wrong with Bosch. I own other cars and I throw cheap parts
at them and they run fine but I'll tell you cheap parts don't perform well
on the mercedes engines... I've tried! and always end up with a Bosch replacement.
rcm fix + the new starter should definitely get you back on the road let us know
how it went.

I've replaced my starter with the Bosch. Interestingly enough it was 3/8 inch longer which made it a tight fit but went on fine. Tighed is shipping my RCM back tomorrow. Looking good. Hopefully able to see how it drives soon. Lol

So I got the RCM back, thanks DJ. Installed and with the new starter and the battery fully charged it fired up perfect. Let it run a bit checking all my repairs. Started it a few times. Tightened everything down again. Got it on the road, loved it until it had shifting issues and went into limp mode. Fml. I posted in an old limp mode fix thread if you feel like helping me with it.

AT limp mode = @ $200 DIY or @ $1500 stealership.
DIY :
new conductor plate
about 8 qt approved fluid
filter kit ( includes gasket )
transmission connector

There are lots of videos on uTube about the 722.8 conductor plate replacement.
highly recommended is a car lift and a CLEAN place to work, along with a helper ( also clean )

So that fix is for the P0715 code that came along with my limp mode (ED because I can't get it up to speed)? I'll be able to lift it about two feet. And it'll be in my garage which will be clean. Trouble will be finding a clean helper. Lol

Between this thread and the tranismission fix thread, I have a drivable crossfire. Thanks everyone for your help. It's still far from perfect but I can finally enjoy the drive.

You should have seen me. From Friday of last week to yesterday at 5pm, I was in a depression. My wife was concerned for me. lol. Damn car. haha. But I'm on the rebound now (fingers crossed/Knock on wood/etc). I want to strangle the guy I bought it from, even if he is a relative. I've had to replace two things that he said he already replaced within last 8 months.

Chrisjlyon - I have a fixer upper too 101k and getting almost bullet proof knock on woood everyday. All that thanks goes to great forum members and especially two members - War Eagle and Badger fans. She now runs tight and great but needs some some refinement based on age etc. looking at a oil catch can next ninety or two. And then some fluid changes;differential, brakes, manual trans and power steering and she will purring like an Abrahms. Never bought nor thought these cars or mine would be collectibles even though I love their look and ride. But I digress. Wanting to make her whole again and enjoy her till I can't any longer. Enjoy the ride Drive In. Go Army.

A clean helper? Pretty sure both will need cleaning up after a job like this. Especially if it is their first transmission job. ROTFLMAO!

This is a great forum. Trying to convince the wife to make the trip to the dragon this year just to meet some of y'all. It's only 6 hours. I'm definitely starting to enjoy it more now that its drivable.
