Can someone post a pic of the flaking problem? I would like to see it.

On a side note, I finally got my car back after a month in the shop. The center console wasn't put back on correctly and is coming off, the car was covered from head to seat in grease and earlier today the fuel door, that they repaired, refused to open. After dealing with a technician for a half an hour on the phone, in an attempt to find the emergency release and accidently pulling out some cable that blows air when I lock the doors now, I had to physically rip the door off to get gas. The left headlight, low beam, was out and while driving to get a replacement the other one went out... so much for their inspection of the car before it leaves the shop.

Don't get me wrong guys, I really enjoy my Crossfire... the simple fact is this particular one is a piece, per the listing of 10 or 15 items I previously posted wrong with the car, and the dealership isn't much better. Hopefully Chrysler will come through for me, but I'm hesitant since I'm not getting calls back from corporate at this point either. I've never had this kind of headache from a car.
I'd be on the phone to the CEO before I wasted any more time with the dealer. His name is Dr. Dieter Zetsche and the address and numbers are:

1000 Chrysler Drive
Auburn Hills,MI 48326

Thanks for the info, theotherbrit... Unfortunately I ended up trading the Crossfire for a Mazda RX-8. I had really wanted to trade for another Crossfire, as I think my problems are related with the car and not the entire Crossfire line, but since Harry Lane was the only dealer in Knoxville that can work on the Crossfire, I decided against it.

Why not take it to Rice (a REAL 5 star dealership) ? I would have tried a second or 3rd dealership before I abandoned hope.

Honestly is was the lack of response from Chrysler Corporate that did it for me... I sent an e-mail, explained the case three times over the phone to multiple people and called back on multiple occassions. Nobody ever contacted me, responded to my e-mail, etc. I was given the 'courtsey' number every time and told that someone would have to get back to me to determine if the paint flaking off was covered or not, as well as a few other things...

Just didn't like the way I was treated all the way around... Don't mean to knock those loyal Crossfire owners, as it was a fun car, but it was just a bad situation in my case and I didn't want to deal with it for the next few years when I had a problem.

This is the second time I have responded to this forum regarding interior paint chipping. For the record, I called Chrysler Corporate and they refused to assume responsibilty for the paint chipping as a warranty issue.

Also for the record, I never used "Armor All" or similiar type of product.

Is there touch-up paint or clear paint sealer I can apply on the effected (chip paint) area other then painting the entire panel or replacing the entire panel?

This has just happen to my car (black srt with gray interior) as the paint around the console has been chipped away. The whole console is being replaced tomorrow with no trouble from the guys at my dealership as they said that it was a problem they have seen before. I have 16K miles on mine and have only used a damp cloth to clean.

Thanks for the information I will inspect the new console with a fine tooth comb before accepting it back.

Go to http://www.benzworld.org/ and scroll down to R170, this is the SLK 230/320 models of our cars. This problem has been on going with the MB line for many years. There are several threads covering repairs, to include one from Hong Kong where MB recovered the console in leather! There is also information on touch up paint. Hope this helps.
