Probably a bad clock set switch. Try turning it back and forth and see if you can make it stop.
I THINK it's the right one in the instrument cluster.

It is, right 'pin' **** turn right for minutes advance, left for hours advance. Might be a piece of dirt or a bug crawled in there and is messing with the 'switch' contacts. Try moving it without the key a few times, rapidly. When you turn it to the right or left, at the stop point, let it snap back into its position. Do this a few times both ways it might 'clear' any debris that might be wedged in there. Hope you can 'fix' it, as the clusters are a 'cluster' to remove and replace. They are also pretty expensive as well and may need to be 'set' by a dealership to maintain the correct mileage and title integrity. Good luck!

Here is something else odd after my clock ran backwards a few it settle dwn with the correct time about 20 mins later. That afterward my car wouldnt start and threw a code,it said crank position sensor started the car after I clear the code I purchase a new sensor later that day.Now the day before my coworker got a 05 clk 320 ,he complained about his car stalling not starting at times and his clock ran backwards,we pulled his code crank sensor ,replace the sensor and all is well.I am not saying the clock running backwards has anything to do with the crank sensor but I have seen this on two similar vechicles so far strange one indeed.

Is it possible the battery it nearing the end of it's life? I've read that weird things happen with the electronics in these cars once the battery starts dying.

I wonder if these two problems happens near or on a military installation, or near a very high EMR location. EMI can interfere with a whole lot of electronics. Typical consumer electronics (including vehicles) are not very well shielded from EMR or EMI. Food for thought.
