Default instrument / gauge cluster removal

Hi everyone.
I need a little advice on how to remove the instrument cluster. I'm trying not to break anything.
I looked in the repair sections but did not see anything that helped.
I have a few lights that are out that I want to replace.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Here's the procedure on a Mercedes R170. It is not 100% the same as a Crossfire, but I'm hoping it's close enough to get the job done.

I searched and found these:

MUST READING before attempting disassembly:
Remember I told you it is not 100% the same (vs R170)? This thread points out the differences:

WD40 - Thanks for posting the video on the gauge cluster removal. I referred to it several time's removing mine. Of particular concern to me was the removal of the electric supply on both the right and left side. I could not find a thing on that in my shop manuals.

Thanks again,

Jim

Thanks Jim. I too bought the 3-volume Chrysler factory Xfire shop manuals which generally go for just shy of $200 for a good-quality used set. They are a boon and well-worth having for anyone who does their own maintenance. But EXACTLY LIKE YOU SAID it never mentions removing the electrical supplies! No one is perfect, but that seemed like a key thing to me too! That's the true value of this forum, because you can bet that as humans we're not that different, and thus subject to experience the same headaches. Thanks. Your mentioning this makes me more likely to share to share what I experience in the future.

IF and WHEN you pull your cluster, make sure you REMOVE the NEG battery cable from the battery before you start pulling electrical plugs in the dash. A word to the wise!

GraphiteGhost - Enlighten me on your post. What are the ramifications of leaving the neg. terminal connected? In most cases, I leave the battery connected because I don't want to lose anything in the storage part of the computer. Let me know about your posting.

Remove the cable from the negative battery terminal! You're working near airbag in the steering wheel.

Also, it's just good practice when separating electrical connectors.

Jim, what BobG said! Always a good idea when opening up electrical connectors with many of the electronic modules in these newer cars!

AMX1397 - Thanks for the offer but everything went fine. Works well and looks so much better than the original black gauges.
