Default Wheel Arch Corrosion

I decided in the end to let the experts deal with the few bubbles inside my rear arch lips while they were re-finishing my wheels, and i'm glad I did.

I took the car in on Tuesday and got a call yesterday to ask if I would like to pop in and have a look at a couple of bits they'd found, thinking they were just angling after a bit more work I nipped in after work and the guy took me through to the preperation shop.

They had removed the arch liners and the inner arches are like new, however they had also removed the side skirts as part of the paint prep and found the corrosion was far worse on the lower part of the lip where it is hidden behind the skirt, it was a crusty mess, they are sorting it out for me but its somewhere I wouldnt have thought to look if i'd done a DIY job on the arches.

The paint guy reckons it would have exploded into view within the next year or so around the area where the skirt meets the arch if left as it was, so if you are doing a DIY job on the arch lips its worth pulling the skirts off too.

I wish i'd taken a couple of photo's to post on here but I didnt think at the time and its probably too late now as i'm expecting a call tomorrow to say the car is done and ready to pick up.

It was certainly a shock to see what was under the skirt considering all that was visible when it went in was a couple af small area's of bubbling!!

Maybe mine has had a more corrosive life than others but it certainly looks like the skirt is real crap trap for road salt etc on a par with the lip around the rest of the arch but far less accessible for cleaning.
