Having a problem with my heated rear window. It has never worked since I bought the car 18 months ago.
Finally got round to looking at it but cannot understand the problem. I have had it tested by an auto electrician who has ascertained that power is getting to it but we cannot find any break in the element yet the circuit is not complete at other side of the element. I know next to nothing about auto electrics so do not know what else to try except maybe a different auto electrician !!!

Is this a known fault with Crossfires?

 

If you have power at the point of entry to the element but no continuity, then unfortunately although there might not be a visible break, it has to be the element itself.


Sounds like you need a window fitter not an electrician, it should be possible to buy a rear window from a breaker, (ask them to verify that the heater element works before they remove it) and then pay someone to fit it for you.

 

Not a known problem on the XF, but as mentioned, looks like the element has failed with break or maybe damaged by prev owner. Good look with a repair!

 

Thanks for the reply PCT. Yes, that is what I was thinking. I will cost up the price of a window but think it will be prohibitive. I've managed without one for 2 years so might have to just rely on my wing mirrors in the future too

 

Search a few breakers, I think you might be pleasantly surprised, there is a recommended breaker on this forum somewhere who specialises in Crossfires and has supplied many forum users with parts but I can't remember the name, I think they are somewhere in Lancashire.

If you can get hold of one and then either drive in to a local screen replacement depot, or better still keep a look out for any screen fitters vans parked locally and ask them if they fancy a quick evening job after work you should get it fitted fairly cheaply.

Edit - just googled Crossfire Breakers and there are plenty out there, take a look.
