1/4 mile track in So Cal
Why the hell cant i find a 1/4 mile track in So Cal that is open to the public. And before you say Fontana, that place will only let you run if your car is 100% legal.

i suggest doing road racing, we got plenty of road courses...
Here's one of many organizers that i run with Event List
What's Famoso??
And I'm totally down for some road racing, what i wanted to do anyways. I just wanted to know what my car performed in the 1/4
Thanks for the hook up on the track events.

just curious, what did you do to your car to make it not track legal? you can PM it to me if you don't want to say in public.

I don't think the window or light tint is going to keep you off the track. Removing the smog devices will most definitely keep you off. Don't ever get stopped here in California without them.
BTW your signature says Oklahoma!

I've run at the Street Legal Drags several times at Fontana and never had a problem, or saw a problem, with the sort of things you've described. As long as you aren't running a wide open exhaust that is insanely loud you're fine. I've seen plenty of cars with dark tinted windows, smoked tails, etc run there. Plenty of 11 second Hondas, too.
I've never had my Crossfire there, and have no desire to, as road courses are just sooooo much more fun with this car. Well, that and you have to get there by 6:00AM so you can get in line for the 7:00AM tech inspection before it's sold out, then sit around all day in the 110 degree desert heat just to get in 2 or 3 runs (4 on a good day) of a few seconds each on a track with almost ZERO prep. Just not my idea of fun.
I couldn't give a rat's patootie what my car runs in the 1/4 mile - I like leaving faster cars behind on the local canyon roads. Now THAT's a good time!!!

It says Oklahoma cause that's where I'm from but I'm stationed in Oceanside,CA. Are you serious that you have to be there at 0600? that's just dumb

Groups like NASA does tech inspections where a tech actually check your car. Most others just require you to do a self-inspection where you just fill out a form and give to someone when you check-in prior to the first session of the day. Since you do a self-inspection you can pretty much show up anytime in the day.
I highly recommend Streets of Willow. It's a fun track, very technical and is more suited to cars with lower HP.
And once you've got bitten by the track bug, i suggest trying out Laguna Seca up in Monterey. Expensive but at least you can say the "corkscrew" is a piece of cake. :-)

Looks like October 26 with Hooked On Driving (..:: Hooked On Driving ::..) another organizer you can run with is Northern California Racing Club - Schedule of Events.
You can go this weekend and run Big Willow at Willow Springs if you like. Willow Springs Raceway
This place has several courses but you can only run the course that you signed up for.
There's also Autoclub Speedway in Fontana which is probably closest to you. Buttonwillow up by Bakersfield.

For serious fun though, follow what others have said here and what I have stated many times before - take your car to a road course. Yes, the NASA HPDE (High Performance Driving Experience) days run about $155 or $250 for a weekend, but you get 4 sessions of 20 minutes each with an instructor. You learn a lot about what your car can do not only with your right foot planted, but with both feet working three pedals while your right hand changes gear. And your steering wheel cranked beyond 90 degrees. It's waaaay more fun that zipping along in a straight line for a few seconds.
Willow Springs, Buttonwillow and the road course at California Speedway are all fun, interesting and very different circuits.

Here in VA we have 1/4 tracks that are different. You run halfway up and the second half is the return lame. NO 1/4 milers.
In Manassas we do have the oldest drag strip on the east coast or they will tell you that before someone corrects me, it 's Old Dominion 1/8th mile with trees to mark the end of the track. They also run late models on the oval track on the weekends.WOody

Famoso is a great track (and not just because I live 20 minutes away from it either).
I was lucky enough to join my buddy in an event hosted by some of the members from the MBWorld.org forum. They had a huge turnout with 50 cars, each paid $250 for unlimited runs from 11am to 6pm. I think a few of the guys got up to 50+ runs
Here are a few pictures I found on the net:
