Help with suspension!
Hey
I lowered my car not that long ago, and i've got a problem now. I did cut the springs but i didn't replace the bumper on the shock? But anyway, so the problem is every time i go over a bump i feel as if the spring is not in it's place and it's hitting the cars frame. It comes out as a knocking sound. (Really annoying after awhile)
So what i did was, i took apart the back suspension. Seated the spring into the rubber thing and the lower arm. I don't know if this is the problem, but the rubber bump stop came out. The thing on top of the spring when you seat it in. When i looked at it, it looked as if it was supposed to be glued up there.
So yea thats the problem! I think im going to glue that bump stop up there, if thats a good idea?
Thanks for the help!

Glue? - There's no glue required - Section 2 of the Service Manual details the rear shock and spring remove and replace instructions.
You may need to trim the shock bump if you cut your springs, I had to go back and trim mine.

alright i got the shock out and the bumper trimmed.
but the problem is still there. It's making lots of clunking noise, like as if there is something loose. I tightened everything up nice, but i don't know what the problem is.

Or you've installed the shock wrong. Only the top "threated" portion of the shock should protrude into the trunk. Once tightend, can you wiggle the shock?
Are both shocks doing this or just one?
It seems as if both shocks are doing this.
When i had the shocks out it was pretty difficult to compress the shock. So i wouldn't say it was easy.
When the shock was tightened at the top, i can still wiggle a little bit when the a-arm wasn't holding the shock, but once both was tightened it wasn't wiggling at all.
Hmm im pretty sure only the threated part was in the trunk, because i put the rubber below the washer and all i can see from the top was the thread.

did you make sure the top of the sping is sitting in the rubber perch pad from your first post? - The spring pad must be oriented a certain way with the end coil of the spring tight in that little pocket.
I really can think of much more? - with the rear of the car jacked up and the wheel off the ground - can you turn or move the spring?
BTW - how much of the spring did you trim?

I trimmed 1 coil.
When the car is lifted up and the shock is not touching the a-arm you can spin the shock. (I was spinning it for awhile thinking thats the way to take it out)
I also trimmed the shock bumper about the same, just a little more then you.
I got to check my spring. Because it doesn't sound like anything that would be coming from a shock.
Sounds like metal clunking.

I re-read your first post again - are you saying that the black rubber donut (spring/coil pad) wont stay seated in the upper coil mount?
Yup!
I found out it was the spring! I seated the passenger side right and i thought i seated the drivers side right but it still makes some clunking noise. not as much as it used to though!
But yeaa thats the rubber dohnut i was talking about, it won't stay up there. So what i did was aligned the bottom of the spring with the a-arm, and then placed that rubber dohnut on there, then stuck it up there.
(Thats the part i was thinking about glueing up there btw.) haha
