Default Mercedes Spring Compressor Question

I'm about to buy a Mercedes spring compressor tool..just curious for those of you who have used it once fully compressed does the spring come straight out OR do you also have to drop the control arm..remove the shocker etc?

yes, you need to drop the control arm... you have to undo the top nut on the shock so the control arm will drop... but dont HAVE to take the shock out...taking it out makes it much easier and once your that far, it's only one bolt at the bottom.....

I am going to change my front spring pads and will get to do this again myself.....

you also need to remove the sway bar clamp from the lower swing arm so you can push the arm down enough to remove the spring.

Really? I thought with the MB compressor you wouldn't have to unbolt anything more then the shock? I was watching a youtube clip of someone using it and it looks like the spring slots back in without unbolting anything! if only it were that easy lol

Okay, I just did the front spring pads and 32krazy is not wrong... I just undid the top shock nut, removed the sway bar nuts and compressed the spring and it came right out... I did have to pull down on the hub assy a little.... I DID NOT have to remove the bolts for the control arm!

Thanks Krazy!!

i did my fronts 4 times jhm2k's 2 times and it damn near killed me!! this is the easiest fastest and SAFEST way to drop the springs. the sway bar bolts are a 13mm deep well for 1 and shallow for the other. just remove the clamp and pull the bar away. i leave the top of the shock bolted and drop the bolt out of the bottom. let it compress and slip it out of the way.
im down to about 20 mins. per side with the tool. remember the large hole plate goes on the bottom and use the center of the coil to install the plates then spin them as far up and down as they will go. slide the tool into the bottom and lock it at the top. compress and voila!!

All this talk about removing the front springs, and I have yet to find a single pictorial walk-through of the process

I don't suppose anyone would mind taking a few pictures of the process next time around? =)
