Default Stud length question

I have searched and searched and can not seem to find the info I need.

I know the lug length in the rear is important because of the ebrake, and I have those bolts taken care of. I am trying to determine if the extra length I have on the front bolts (7-8mm) needs to be cut, or if I am fine. I can not find a definitive answer anywhere for how deep the hole is and if it will 'bottom out' or interfere with anything else.

Thanks guys....

John,

somewhere in the deep, dark past, I spoke at length about this. AS I RECALL there are only 6 threads in the hub. if you have 7 or 8 showing inside the wheel, you're golden. If you see more, they will have to go. It will not bottom out. there is no bottom. But, as you know, there is an e-brake system.

Now, leave me alone, I have SST to lay out...

He needs help with the front.

John, I haven't really paid attention to that area when rotating tires. I would think you could take a look and find out. With no ebrake in the front, I would think you have more room for error.

Darn - I thought this thread was something else completely. I had comments on that topic but none on this one. Sorry!

Well, duh! John, thread the lugs into the holes with no wheel in place. Count turns while you do it. That will let you determine the number of threads available before bottoming out. Stick the screw through the wheel and count threads! Less showing than you counted? Good! More? Bad! It would be nice to have maybe 2 less.

The more the merrier, up to a point.

John, the easiest was is just to pull a wheel and thread a bolt through the hub untill you have 10 or 12mm sticking through... then just SLOWLY turn the hub and look for obstructions.... I would check at full stop left and right also... because I am paranoid...

I dont have my car here or I would go do it... I am pretty sure your have TONS of clearance in front..

Thank you friends, and Kim (I am surprised you did not get more of these guys off track )

I have had wheels off at least 3-4 times over the last few days and I was simply trying to save one more time. I will go ahead and check it out and report back - for future readers

I think I will be alright, but I only want to have to do everything once, so I have been checking everything 3x first

Always a wise approach, Grasshopper...

None of the fellas wanted to admit it, but I'm sure that most of us would have liked to hear those "comments", lol.

I work until 1 pm...and it is not that I don't like corners, I am just too tight to want to work on the suspension in order do it justice...maybe later on once everything is done....I would love to watch, if you are going to be up there, say after 2:30....

PS. I have some stud bolts that I am not using...they are long enough to be shortened to desired length I am sure...your machine shop buddy can take care of that...
