Default Spare tire

Hey guys, I have done a little searching and cannot find any hard info on this subject. I am wanting to put a spare tire/wheel in the back in case of emergencies. I have seen a little info on a mercedes spare that may fit but not much else. Do the lug bolts work with this spare? Would I need a wheel spacer? Any other info would be helpful. Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken.. you will have an issue of where to put your flat tire.. most and foremost.. I carry a tire plug kit with me and a cross hanging from the visor

Not much help to be had on that subject as most of us ride bareback so to speak and join AAA/CAA.

Triple A here as well. But for long trips, I actually will carry a full size 18" in the trunk. Plenty of room for clothes as well and if you need to use it, there's room for the flat when you take the full size out. I understand it ain't perfect, but if you got no cell Svc for a phone call or no tire shops are open in the small 1 horse town youre passing thru, you at least got a way home.

Yeah Dave, 18" believe it or not, wheel that is. It might come in handy on the upcoming cruise, no pun intended

Same with me. It has been very handy for me having 2 flats since I've owned her.

Do a Google search for slk 320 spare tire. Pick out any salvage yard (junk yard) thats listed & see if they have a donut spare
available for a M B slk 320. I bought mine years ago. It was from a 2002 totaled car. Spare had never been used & worked
well on trial inflating & deflating. Our factory lug nuts fit perfectly & so does the donut tire both on the front & rear wheels.
No clearance problems anywhere. I bought a little travel trailer spare tire cover for mine in gray & you hardly notice it
when it's stored in my trunk. It does not take up that much room & serves me well for the peace of mind wherever I am.
Not sure if it would clear an SRT suspension setup but it's just right for an N/A. If I remember right it cost $125.00 incl. frt.
from California.

Both of my flats have been total side blow outs. A plug wouldn't have helped.

Crossfireone, thanks for the info. I figured that was the case but just needed confirmation.

Witchal this is what comonally happens to an ultra wide low profile
tire that has been driven for some distance with little or no inflation.
It's often called a complete side wall blow out. But in reality, their stiff side wall folds under the rim, and as it spins, it shreds the side wall.
It happens more often on Base Cars since they don't come with a sending unit for tire pressure. Or to cars whose battery sending unite isn't working proerly.Message - CrossfireForum.org Gallery

Would a spare from an SLK 230 be the same? I assume it would, but one never knows.

I can't say for sure what size spare the SLK230 has, but I'm going to assume the diameter of it's tires are probably close to those of an SLK320.
The SLK320 uses a 205/55R16 in front, and a 225/50ZR in the back. The rear tire of the Mercedes must have the same diameter as the "stock" rear tire that comes on the Crossfire, because according to Motor Trend Magazines Dec. 2003 Comparison road test of the two cars, they are turning exactly the same RPM when going the same speed. (Probably because they use the same 3.27:1 differential, and transmission). Even though the spares diameter is smaller than that of the regular tires, it must not be small enough to play havoc with the cars computer.
I've been telling people to use the SLK spare ever since I've been on this forum, and I haven't heard of anybody having problems with their EMS shutting their cars down.

My TPMS was working fine and I check the pressure manually regularly. My blowout were right along the seam. Goodyear, where I bought the tire, issued a refund on the second tire after I got loud in front of other customers. They called it a batch defect.

Believe the 2003 Mercedes E320 211 Type has a 17x4 spare rim. If so, wonder if this would fit the Crossfire for use as a Spare Front & Rear.

Yep.. they fit.. At least I can vouch for the rear location.

Tried the plug kit first..

Starting too see a trend I'm not liking... talk of cps.. mine goes out.. talk of headliners.. mine now sags by the center rib.. talk about spares.. Hmmm.. Can we discuss carnal knowledge of hot blondes or redheads next ?
