max wheel width
max wheel width
im trying to switch to black rims for my srt6. just a question to anyone out there that knows what would be the max width of the rims(front and rear) that you can put on the car without lowering or modifying the wheel well. basically im looking to remove and replace. im not very mechanically inclined so the simpler the better. i had found info on here about tire sizes but not much on rim sizes

Go to this site:
Custom rims, wheel tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com
Its not 100% accurate because its not car specific. But you can play around with different sizes and it will tell you if your trying to go too ridiculous (too wide, too narrow) or not. Maybe someone will chime in who has really wide rims on their car. Sorry I cant be more helpful.

Re: max wheel width
thanks a lot, any issue with the 8.5 in front? i read another thread where someone was having issues with it rubbing inside and the fender but he had 19" in the front and lowered the suspension a little bit
Re: max wheel width
I have a 9" front rim with a 30 offset. I don't know why anyone would want more but I think a 9 1/2" would fit. The problem is the tire size more than the rim size. A 245 fit with minor fender liner rubbing and now I'm on 255's on the front. I got minor cutting under maximum braking on the outside of the tire so I rolled the front fenders and now all is good in my world. On the rear I have 10" rims 25 offset and a wider rim will fit, I believe, but again it's the tire. Since I lowered my car everything rubbed. 255's, 265's, 275's and 285's. I used a heat gun, a brass hammer and fixed that problem. Most important is the offset. Get that right and your life will be easier.

I had problems too. That is why I resulted in having to use spacers. I didn't want to settle for another wheel.

Re: max wheel width
Hi, I just did the switch that you are about to do with black wheel, amazing difference in terms of look and such a new handeling with larger wheel & great UHP tire!
I choose DaiAlloy Staggered Autobhan black wheel.
http://www.daialloys.com/wheel.php
I went 18x9,5 in front 35mm offset with a centric 16mm spacer (if you want to go 9.5 width in front you need at least a 15mm spacer, otherwise the wheel touch the connecting bar at the top and you need to cut the extra length of the top bolt on this rod to avoid dammage on the tire). You also need longer screw for the wheel, length is not an issue because you don't touch anything inside the disc. I needed 12x1.50 17mm shank by 40mm long to match my mag and it worked.
For front tire I went 255/35R18 Conti SportContact 5P. That is the biggest you can go. Next one I will go 255/30R18.
For the rear I went 19x9.5 25mm offset witn a centric 10mm spacer (10 inches width would work). The spacer was not mandatory but since I was larger in front, I wanted to balance the car.
Rear tire are 295/30R19 Conti SportContact 5P. You can go bigger if you want, but for me it is way enough.
IMPORTANT: For the wheel bolt, I had to cut 7mm of it in order to avoid dammaging the macanisim inside of the rear security brake drum. Make your test by spining the wheel to avoid problem.
Here are some pics of the project. You can see difference between OEM wheel and 225/40R18 front tire & OEM wheel 275/30R19 rear tire, and final result.
I really like the final result, look like I have a new car
For full details I have a thread named : NEW TIRE COMPATIBILITY: 295/30RZ19 rear & 255/35RZ18 front = SUCCESS!

I would be really vareful with knockoff rims i have seen many of them explode after hitting a good pothole. I loved my Enkie RPF1s which i pretty sure come in those sizes . I had 4 18x10.5 15offset on my 350z. good quality and light...under 20lBs. unsprung wheel weight is a speed killer. I ran a square set up of 295/40/18 on that car. I am happy with the oem wheels for now but did go to 235 up front and 275 rear.
