Default Brake lights short

My break lights short the sec you press the break. A mechanic told me it’s the break light switch. Is there a way to replace that? And why exactly do you have to replace?

Here you say it is the BRAKE switch, yet in your other post you are looking for bulb/socket/connector? Which is it? What fuse is blown?

Sorry for the confusion. It is the break switch, but I also need a new bulb socket for the rear right tail light/break light

So why do you think it is the BRAKE switch? It is located above the brake pedal on the brake pedal arm.

The mechanic told me I need to replace the whole break pump is that true? (The break lights weren’t working before the socket broke , it’s not the socket)

Break pump? Do you mean brake lever?
You has better explain your problem more thoroughly, you know what it is but we can only guess what you mean.
The BRAKE (another hint) switch is easy to replace, take it out and look at it first though. Although you might want one handy in case it is the problem, they are cheap.
I am guessing the socket has a number and a makers name on it, look for it.

The switch is inside the car behind the brake pedal.

How do you KNOW the lights are "shorting" when you press the brake?
What I am getting at, is I'm not sure what we are chasing here.

I opened up my dash to check out the brake light and I’m pretty sure it’s missing. I had a problem with my brake lights shorting. The problem is I dont see the wires that connect to the break light switch. Does anyone have a picture or something this way I can be more clear about what’s going on? Thank you!!
