RCM OBTAINED AND INSTALLED.

Hey guys,

My 6 is out of commission and exhibiting signs of the "Mystery no Start", all electronics work but engine will not crank .

I would like some help from a forum member, please PM me for details if interested in assisting with expediting a loaner.

Thanks,

Here's a link to RCM repair and what to look for on youtube. Looks straight forward and simple to do. I personally would just re-flow the solder joints with a little new solder to make up any deficit. The video poster actually wicked away most of the old solder prior to re-soldering.

It is best to wick away the old solder and try to clean the posts if you can as solder will not adhere to dirty or oxidized posts and then you could back where you started. My posts looked blackish until I scraped them clean.

As I always say you must use rosin cored solder NOT acid cored solder. Leaded and the newer Lead free solders (Tin-Silver-Copper) are treated the same way.

If you need really clean component leads and if the flux isn't doing a good job cleaning I suggest a cheap solder vacuum pump from radioshack. Completely remove the relay, scitchbrite/sandpaper the leads and resolder to bare tinned pads. Probably overkill but it would be decided on a case by case basis I suppose.

If she fires up with the replacement unit, I'll try my hand at soldering the original unit.

Thanks for the assistance guys, RCM replaced but the 6 is still a sitting duck. Time to put that AAA membership to use and head over to the dealer. After additional research through the forums, I think my issue is the SKREEM but we shall see.

You got it, I tried explaining that to the service associate, to save them time and me money. Since there time equals my money, he didn't care .
