Thanks! I am really tempted. I am conflicted between a NA and a SRT as the NA are going for about half the price. I recognize that the SRT would probably hold its value better but I have a bad record of cars as investments. I also recognize on a performance basis the SRT is the way to go. I have a thing for a black one and a stick. Not to go OT but how do the autos drive? Is there any paddle shift mods? Seems like modifying these is much more limited. I'm afraid my turbo'd neon will always best this amazingly beautiful car. Thanks Tom!

It's not about "cars as investments" it's about "bang for the buck". The SRT6 is the best "bang for the buck" sports car on the planet right now. The few thousand more you'll spend for an SRT6 will return big dividends in fun factor. My advice would be to forget the NA and focus on finding a clean low mileage SRT6. They are getting harder to find and the prices do seem to be heading upward. Here's a low mileage very clean black SRT6 coupe that just went up for sale in NJ. Make them an offer. Happy hunting!

Not to disagree, but I would'nt just dismiss an NA. You can get them cheaper, yes. You can mod them and make them perform very well. No, they aren't SRT6 performers but I'll say an NA that is modded is damn fun to drive an even exhilerting. Not everyone needs an SRT6. SRT6 don't come with manual trannies either (althought the auto sticks are just fine by me. The rider is harsher, wheels hard to clean, have some additional maintenance considerations etc. Good and drawbacks either way.........you just need to consider what you want out of the car. Eitherway you can't go wrong, but don't dismiss an NA. They are also a very good bang for the buck and just a few bucks here and there and damn good and fun performers.
Thanks PNA, really I'd love a manual SRT but.... I can pickup a clean NA with 100K (red) for $3000. I have a 98 Neon R/T with T04E turbo, programmable injection, stage 4 clutch, Konis, high rates... It will leave your teeth behind on acceleration and knock them out on a bump. So I am looking for something a little more refined and classy. These fit the bill.

Personally I wouldn't walk away from that car . . . the recorded mileage progressions are not indicative of a rollback / there are no reported accidents / the photos support a low mileage car that has been well cared for. I would use the information in the CarFax report to negotiate a low purchase price. I would offer them $11,000 and see how they react. That car is like a good dog that has been bounced around from home to home. It just needs to find its loving forever home.

Me either. I would run.
TMU is worse than a rebuilt or salvage title in my opinion. I imagine it would offer the same complications as to resale, financing and insuring. There certainly would be confusion as to what preventive maintenance is needed when.
I have seen near cosmetically flawless cars with in excess of 250K but wear is wear and value is value. One in particular comes to mind that was used by a dealer to crisscross the nation going to auctions. It would seem in today's world of so much computerized in our cars that unless a strong effort was made to obfuscate the mileage history would be there locked away electronically.
But I am at a disadvantage in needing to pay others to do my mechanical work. I do recognize miles mean less to some than to others, however.

Totally agree.. we have speed limits.. so that really limits the extra kick of an SRT6. I was "SRT6 roadster searching" Till I found a twin to my wife's roadster at a very good price. Do the couple mods to one and they will still give you a quick takeoff kick..
I've got a 320HP Corvette for when I feel the need for a ticket.. LOL.
I offered on the 37k one in line with my gut feeling about it.
My current mix of possibilities includes:
Black SRT 37k $14k (5 hour drive)
Black SRT 137k $8 (5 hour drive)
Silver SRT 62k $12k (2 hour drive)
Black SRT 69k $12k (8 hour drive)
Blue SRT roadster 50K $11k (local with a front end rebuild title)
Silver NA stick 50k $6.5k (Colorado)
Silver NA stick 72k $7k (local)
Black NA stick 91k $7.5k (local)
And I barely missed a red auto coupe with 100k that I could have gotten for $3k. Kind of would have got it as a starter car since $3,000 is pretty rock bottom on pricing. Saved it as a donor car later.

Congratulations. You have done your homework and are probably better informed on today's values than most of us.
While I have always done a hands on prior to purchase I have driven cars home to Tennessee from Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, DC, Ohio, Indiana, Chicago, New Hampshire and I am sure a bunch of places forgotten. I have also wasted expensive trips to PN (more than 11 hours each way by bus with no sleep - still get upset about that liar), SC, Chicago (I got cocky), CT and NC.
Drive a couple to know what you want, stack up your bucks and move quickly when you find the right one. I suggest only you strongly give some extra worth to documented history. A couple of extra dollars on a car that has been lovingly cared for is often the least expensive, most joyful way to go over the long run.
I congratulate you again on taking the time to do the job right. This prep time will be a fun positive or at least a good investment. I spent eight frustrating months months hunting for the replacement for the last car I sold (with a feeler up only three hours).

I have been at the mercy of a few Neons in my day, but you won't be disappointed in the auto/SRT6. And they only come in auto if you didn't catch that. Last neon I ran in a half mile event..... He ran very well.... I edged him in the quarter but he went right on by..... Most of the time, they edge me in the quarter.... I would hang on to the neon.... and get yourself an SRT.... If you like your neon, you won't be disappointed in the SRT.... Boost is boost baby....
Thanks for the kind words and advice. I don't even own a CF yet and this forum is a welcoming place to be new! I would like to find a private sale with a known history but they are fewer right now than the dealerships.
