Default Repair costs

Just need honest opinions. Recently had the camshaft and crankshaft sensors replaced on a 2005 Crossfire. Parts and labor came to about $635 (before tax). Was the amount charged about right or too high? The work was done at a Dodge-Chrysler service center at the suggestion of our regular mechanic.

Were you holding your ankles when they performed the "service" on your Crossfire? Since those Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep stealerships sold the cars at discounted prices, they are now making it up on service. You were screwed over for that pricing. Do some research on this site and the two issues you had are described within numerous threads on this forum, by using the search button.
Hopefully they used Mercedes parts and not an off brand (from China). Find an independent Mercedes mechanic in your area and take the car to them for future repairs after you search this forum, FIRST!
Good Luck with the crossfire.....

parts around 150 on the high end, and 1 hr at 90 for install is 240 tops....so yes, you were over charged.

Unfortunately Dennis is right, that one was felt by many CF owners. It's a shame that some dealerships treat customers like that. I hope they feel guilty and realize when they depart this world, the next stop is likely to be very warm. Those sensors can be purchased in the $40 to $50 range and replacement takes less than 1/2 hour each.

You can replace your crankshaft sensor by following these directions in less than half an hour. CLICK
The sensor costs $45.50 it is a Bosch part and the best make to get.

The Bosch camshaft sensor costs about $70 and takes about as long to install.

You can be sure that your problem was related to only one part, probably the crankshaft sensor. They decided to rob you and changed both. The camshaft sensors do not fail very often or at the same time and they can last for a very long time. They can see on the computer which one has failed and only change that one.

So yeah, you were robbed by about $300 to $400. OUCH!

You could have saved a bundle if you would if you had followed this forum during your 1 year as a member. The information on those sensors have been discussed over and over again.

Sorry ronw_57, these guys are right. Your mechanic should have known better.

After searching this forum, I was able to replace my own CPS, on my own driveway, for the cost of a full tank of gas.

We don't mean to get all up in your grill, it's just that all to often, CF owners come here as a last resort when it should be the first. Since the PC was invented, the first thing I do after purchasing a car, is look for a good forum. This is by far the best I have ever seen. Sometimes a few members might take you to task about something but, I assure you, it is all well intentioned. Good luck with your car, I hope you enjoy it as much as we all do.
