U-joint replaced around $100.00
with all the research that speedy and i have done on a one piece driveshaft using regular u-joints. cost around $500.
I am going to stay with the factory set up.(1 )the flex-disc must take up some of the torque from my V8 (2) it if is in great shape it takes up a lot of the vibration. (3) with the amount of runs i have on my car and the driveshaft from the srt6 has not failed i am staying with it. thanks speedy for saving me money. (4) i'm getting too old to keep making changes on my car that cost money,,it runs great the way it is ,, one of these days i will want to sell it, anyone wanta go fast call,,pm or email me. jim

Jim, where is your mechanic located?
Also does anyone know if the Mercedes version driveshaft is interchangeable with a NA version. And the part number if known. I assume it has a pinned u-joint also.

Too bad the yoke ears can't be machined to accept a snap ring. There is plenty of room outboard of the u-joint caps to put in a groove.
I am definitely interested in your future findings on compatibility with a Mercedes shaft. Good hunting.

Cut off and weld new tube yoke and shaft yoke on?
Or take the 2 piece driveshaft out of a newer camaro or other, and cut and weld on the 3 arm props ???
I glad I don't have to worry about that center u joint anymore

Old thread, but I thought someone might use this info:
I just replaced the u-joint on original driveshaft. Is costs $31 and it was used on many MB cars throughout the years.
GMB 220-7284 Universal Joint

first, how did you center the u joint ? and then how did you secure it? this u joint with the center hole is used on older jeeps and is too week for the torque in our cars.
Not sure about old Jeeps, but here`s the list of applications from manufacturer:
BMW: 750iL 1997-88
MERCEDES BENZ: 190 SERIES 1996-81
MERCEDES BENZ: 230 SERIES 1984-74
MERCEDES BENZ: 240D 1984-73
MERCEDES BENZ: 260E 1993-86
MERCEDES BENZ: 280 SERIES 1981-68
MERCEDES BENZ: 300 SERIES 1993-86 1986-73
MERCEDES BENZ: 300SEB 1981-68
MERCEDES BENZ: 350SL 1981-68
MERCEDES BENZ: 380 SERIES 1984-82
MERCEDES BENZ: S CLASS 1996-83
I centered it by pressing the caps in at same depth on all ends (2.5mm exactly). I secured it by tack welding 24mm washers. I can take a picture.

is this in a srt 6 yes a pic would be nice... I would make 4 spacers 2.55 mm press them in (which) should center the u joint then ping,, or tack weld that way you save the drive shaft for future use

This is on a 2004 limited.
The washers I used are 2.5 mm thick and I machined them to be just below 24 mm in diameter (u-joint caps are 24 mm). I will take a picture tonight.

good job,, thanks for the pic. your washers are the perfect spacers to center the u joint . i see you used one spot weld on one side and two spot welds on the other . did you reblance the shaft. ? if i had seen one weld on each cap i would not have ask that question,,,and that question was ask because of the speed on the track that i do in my car.
So as I under stand the GMB 220-7284 WILL FIT THE 04 COUPE? I have the specs and plan to use them to get one without the center hole......want to be sure this will fit mine prior to getting one and pulling the shaft.
