Default Help! Spilled Water on window button and now window button won’t work.

Hi everyone… I spilled water on the window button and now it’s not working. The window is down the whole time. When I press the button to close it… nothing happens.

I’m giving it some time to dry off. But does anyone know how to fix this? I
assuming it might be a fuse to replace or something electronic system.

please help! I’m hoping someone here knows how to fix this.

thank you in advance.

I doubt the fuse blew but you can check it. Im rather surprised a little water did any damage. Do BOTH buttons now refuse to work or just one?
THe most common cause for BOTH to stop working is a bad "seat relay" and that's EASY to change.

Thank you for responding @pizzaguy !
it’s only the one button that doesn’t work. The water spilled more on that button. My driver side window is still working. I spilled quite a bit of water to be honest. My water was in the cup holder and just spilled all over the gear shifter and the passenger side window button.
I will try the fuse first.
do you know how to fix it if it’s electronic issue?

thanks again for your help!

The fix would be a new switch. But honestly, if it is an automatic, the real danger is water getting into the SLA (Shift Lever Assembly). If that module is impaired, you won't be going anywhere without a tow truck and again, only fix will be another SLA out of another car (since you can't buy them new).

This is the REAL danger of spilled drinks or leaving the top down in the rain.

Hi @pizzaguy

my crossfire is manual so hopefully I’m good and won’t need to replace that.
how would I know that it’s the SLA to repair? Does only affect it if it’s automatic?

If this doesn’t affect me bc I have a manual gear shifter… what else do you recommend I do to fix it.

The manual has and needs no SLA or Transmission Control Module because YOU fill both functions as the driver.
You just need a new switch for the window, I cannot imagine any other damage a spilled drink could do unless you poured it on the climate control/switch console directly.

@pizzaguy … man you really know your stuff! You rock!

when you say new switch… obviously then it’s an electronic issue? And is it hard to find a switch. How do I even access getting into that button to replace the switch. Can I get a generic switch or is this part hard to find as well?

do you think if I let it dry for a couple of days it would help?

Buy a 2001-2004 SLK 320 switch and just replace the top plastic part/cover so it is still silver if you are sure the switch is bad. They are NLA new for the Crossfire but it is the same switch as Mercedes.

Ok, now deal with the HARD part, pulling the console to get under there! There is a thread here SOMEWHERE that goes all thru the process with photos, etc. I had to get in there in 2009 with my first roadster, have not done it since. Its not a bad job with a manual, but getting that grip off the hand brake can be a PITA.

It's easy to replace if you look at the instructions in the link ZERACER supplied.
It looks like you can just gently up your shifter boot using a plastic trim tool. Then you can gently pry up and pull back the plastic piece with the switches in it. You should be able to disconnect the switch from there and replace it with a new one. There is a whole bezel on fleabay and there are tested individual switches.
The link shows what it looks like:

Here's a video that shows how to take the shifter plate off. It's about 40 seconds in. NOTE: The guys doing the video are working on a junkyard car so they aren't doing it as carefully as it should be done.
