Window on side of telescopic steering wheel now not functioning correctly
There is/was a spring-loaded "window" in the sleeve on the right side of the telescopic steering wheel column, down where the column enters the dash. While performing the "sticky key" prevention procedure, a coil spring fell out of the sleeve, and the plastic sleeve and window, and possibly a third inner part are now just rattling around. Where this is located, it is impossible to see up inside the sleeve, and little hope of even reaching inside there. Has anyone dealt with this? I'm wondering whether the steering wheel would have to be removed to access these parts (raises Q's re horn wiring, air bag wiring, etc.).
Wasn't sure where to post this question. Issue is on a 2005 SRT6 Roadster, but are these optional across all models?
OBTW the sticky key procedure was a success, but one step forward, one step back.
Re: Window on side of telescopic steering wheel now not functioning correctly
Can you take a picture of it? Im not sure exactly what to look for on mine to help you. There is the spring that pulls the the lever back into position after you get the wheel where you want it. Does that lever go back in place on its own or do you have to push it back after you get the wheel where you want it to be?

Re: Window on side of telescopic steering wheel now not functioning correctly
The lever which locks the telescoping steering wheel seems to be working normally.
I'm going to try to attach 3 photos showing the sliding window (door?) and the spring which fell out. (Wish me luck.)
Thanks for your response.

That spring is what pulls the lever back into lock position after the length adjustment.
This repair is not an easy one
Disconnect battery. Remove all plastics to access the top column bolts. unbolt the column from the top 2 bolts. Remove nuts from studs under the dash 2 10mm nuts. This will allow the column to drop down and you will have access to the spring location and repair. Top column bolts 13mm Rear column studs 10mm nuts. Cable on top attaches to the spring Repair access granted 🤣

Thanks for the very thorough answer. I will take a good look at the situation tomorrow. It does appear to be somewhat challenging, beginning with maybe removing more plastic. Those parts are aged and fragile.
I'll post re the outcome, or additional questions, whichever comes first.
Thanks again.

Good Luck. May the Crossfire Gods be with you. 🤓 Im sure if you are patient and take your time you will get this repair accomplished. 🍻
Re: Window on side of telescopic steering wheel now not functioning correctly
Before you take it all apart maybe see if anyone else has an answer. I think we are talking about two different springs. There is a spring that holds the little access panel in place and it is easy when doing a sticky key to have it drop. It does not have any effect on the steering column. All it does is cover that access area. I have lost a couple over the years and have just advised people to hold on to them as I haven't figured out how to replace it. It will not cause any functional issues. Cosmetic only.

Good call, Ron is correct.
I went out and looked a bit closer. I never noticed that window until just now. Don't take it apart. Out of 15 sticky repairs I have never seen that spring. My bad. I was wrong. 😬
