Sticky ignition key -- steering wheel removal?
I'm trying to follow the sticky ignition key fix document, but my locking pin is not exactly where the photo shows and I can't get the tool in to drill out the pin. The plastic trim around the steering column behind the steering wheel is blocking access. Do I really have to remove the steering wheel and instrument cluster (so says the service manual) to get this trim piece off?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
the wheel has to come off, not sure about the cluster but once the wheel is off the cluster bezel and cluster is much easier to remove
I have never saw or heard of removing the steering wheel when doing the sticky iggy fix. Be sure your reading the latest version 2 (although the older one has no mention of removing the steering wheel that I remember either), I just re-read it nothing about taking out the steering wheel.

I pushed the plastic part away (the half-moon that retracts and goes back into place as if it were spring loaded), but the pin is so far up inside I won't be able to drill it out because the angle is too sharp. It's not accessible like the one in the how-to.

I'm not sure if there is a difference between the srt6/roadster/n/a/coupe ignition assembly location. The howto is based on a n/a coupe.
telecoping the steering wheel all the way out might give you a little more room.

I STILL say GG is right. I have NEVER heard of someone taking the WHEEL OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the pin is that far up in the hole, then use a punch pin to make sure it is up in there enough, and start pulling and twisting the lock assembly to remove it!

^^^ Yea! ^^^
OP post and your reply says the wheel has to come off to get into the fix, I read very well...
rekcah has the answer -- telescoping the wheel reveals the pin at an accessible angle. I feel like a dope for not thinking of it myself.
Thanks.
Thanks.
(That is how things go at Kenwood, USA. And since I am now one of the writers at Kenwood USA....)
Are you related to FUBU?
I see you are still confused. This is what he asked: "The plastic trim around the steering column behind the steering wheel is blocking access. Do I really have to remove the steering wheel and instrument cluster (so says the service manual) to get this trim piece off?" and this is how I answered " the wheel has to come off, not sure about the cluster but once the wheel is off the cluster bezel and cluster is much easier to remove".

In no way was that meant to be demeaning. Thanks for the revision.
