Amplifier Question
We are at our wit's end. First, let me ask a question. Behind the fastory radio unit, there is a empty connection (black in color) that looks like the Amplifier connection. But, nothing has ever been connected to that. Is it possible, my amplifier was never connected and if so, I guess I would still get sound? I have NO problem with my radio.
Reason I am askng this is I got a Dual XHD6425 for Christmas from Crutchfield. After hooking it up, the power and other functions are fine. HOWEVER, there is NO sound. The rep on the phone said we need to hook up our amplifier (???). I cannot find any connection (lead/quick-disconnect) for Amplifierr. Where in the world is this located? Where the lead for it?
Please respond. Not sure if Crutchfield knows what they are talking about?
Thanks so much

If you do a search you will find all the info you need to hook up a stereo in your Crossfire. You will need to switch the red and yellow wires and the amp turn on (blue) wire is pink on most wiring harness for Crossfire/VW.

Thank you Maraud...but it isn't clear to me. I have read several threads here about this type of thing. Some area talking about reversing leads...which ones? Some are saying run speaker wire here and there. Some are saying bypass AMP, others are saying "not to bypass anything, just switch the wires......which wires?
Sorry :-P
Sorry :-P
You should have gotten a VW style wire harness from Crutchfield. You will need to reverse the red and yellow power wires. You can try red/red & yellow/yellow. Hook it up, Set the clock & program in a couple of radio station's. Turn off the key, Wait a min or two and then turn the key back on and see if your clock and station settings are still there. If they are your good. If there not hook up red/yellow & yellow/red that should handle the power. You will need to hook up the amp "switch" wire from your new radio. It will be blue from the radio. Hook it up to the pink wire on the harness. Hook up the speaker level wires from your radio to the harness and you should be rocking. You do not need to run new wire to your speakers, You can and really must use the factory amp. A lot of so called stereo "installers" have no idea how these cars work. Hope this helps.

1) New speaker wire will have to be ran to both front and rear speakers then connected to the speaker wires on the radio. The tweeters in your vehicle will need to be combined with your front speaker wires.
2) The only receiver wiring harness adapter available is the 120701784 on your order. However the only wires that can be used are the Red switched 12 volt, Yellow Constant 12 volt, and the black ground wire. The functions of the yellow and red wires in the 1784 harness are reversed. The yellow wire supplies ignition power, and the Red wire supplies constant power. The speaker wires coming out of the radio will be connected to the new speaker wire that is ran to each speaker.
The radio has a blue wire for a remote turn on. This wire can be used to turn on your factory antenna booster by connecting it to your factory radio harness Blue/Green wire directly. However if the 1784 harness blue wire lines up with the Blue/Green wire all you have to do is connect the blue wire from the radio to the blue wire on the 1784 harness. end quote
So, do I still use the blue wire and connect it to the PINK? This running new speaker wires is crazy. Is this really going to be necessary? Geeze, this was supposed to be an "easy installation". Now Crutchfield is saying it's NOT...ugh. I am sick of this already.
Thanks for a further reply.
I am so sorry to be a pain about this.....it's just that I don't want something to happen that will ruin the new receiver, thus making it impossible to return for refund. That's exactly what I am going to do if this doesn't work out. Crutchfield tells me that was to be an easy install, but then suggests I have to rewire for speakers. Members here say no. Getting really confused. I will probably end up keeping stock radio and sending back new receiver if I cannot resolve this without rewiring! :-P
For Marauderroy:
Thank you so much!!!!! You are the best. You know MORE than Crutchfield, to be sure
We connected the blue from the radio to the pink on the VW harness and voila, we have our sound!!!
Thank you so much. I will not have to return this to "crutches". MUCH appreciated!!!
