Show Me Your Box!
Hey guys!
I have been trying to decide what kind of box I am going to make for my XF that will fit the two 12s I have or the two shallow 10s I bought... I wanna see what you guys have created and how its worked/ not for you!
Tell me about the build, problems, and pictures are a must so that every one can use this!

I found this place online, looks pretty cool.

Ya I saw that a while ago when I was first buying the car. I like it and its a great place and space saver, but its way out of my price range, and I would get a lot more out of building a wooden box, for me not the performance.
Right now I have a huge enclosure with my two 12's and although I can still fit a full cart of groceries in the car (front seat included...)I would like room to put a suitcase or two again, all without taking away from the overall sound and hurting the subs.
So thank you!
Any other ideas guys?

If you want more room, your best bet would be changing over to the 10's so you can have a smaller enclosure, but you're going to have a significant reduction in output.
If you want to keep the same level of sound and stay with the 12's, you'll have to pony up the dough and have a high quality custom enclosure build that can maximize the available space within the rear hatch.
It all comes down to what is more important to you, low cost, loud sound or minimal space used. You can have 2 of the 3, but you're not going to be able to have all 3 most likely.

And ya I know.... not happy about it lol
But if you look at what Beaner designed, he found a nice way to make a false floor, protect the subs and have a relatively flat surface.
Here are the pics from his gallery: (tell me if you cant see them!)

Ill be uploading photos of my car tonight, and the mess I have working for me right now
. So that every one can see what I'm working with and show you all the box design I am working on.
That is pretty darn ingenuitive, though I'd be a little hesitant of putting much weight on top of the box out of fear of crack or scratching the plastic speaker covers. Looks like it would free up more room than you probably have with your current setup, though.
The speakers covers I made up are of plexiglalss. If they get scratched just light sanding and buff them back to clear! I put 2 fold up chairs and a case of beer on the floor of the trunk and there is still room to spare and no worry of the subs being damaged. The false floor can withstand me kneeling on it. As you see it in the pictures installed it can hold my weight no problem and I am over 200lbs.
My setup is accually 2 seperate sealed boxes. I would never be able to get it threw the hatch if I didn't build it this way. I just checked through my computer and apparently I didn't take any pictures of the boxes out of the car. I should have but must have been too interested in getting it put in the car.
When I get a chance I could take pics of them. I am going to put dynamat in the trunk area this winter anyways so when I do I will take pics of the boxes

Fiberglass the holes from inside the frame where the factory styrofoam inserts were located so I can get the shape and utilize as much space as possiable.
Top is MDF, it is flat and can support as much weight as you can fit in the trunk, just screws down to the frame. each seperate box weighs less than the sub that I put in it.
Fasten the 2 seperate boxes together with whatever you want. I used thin flat steel bracket in 2 locations so there is no movement.
Now depending on how you do the wiring all depends on how easy the removal will be. If you have the amp located where I do you should not have to take it out. For removing the boxes it is just a matter of unscrewing those 2 little brackets, undo the speaker wire to each and pull them out.
The part of the floor that is visiable is 1 thin peice of panneling wrapped with whatever you want (carpet, vinyl, anything). very light and easly removable. Just sits flat ontop of the boxes and around the subs. The speaker covers I made fasten to this part and not to the individual boxes. They are spaced high enough so that the sub will not hit it and allow for air movement. The design on mine are cut out allowing for more air movent also.
You can make this system as easy or as hard as you want to be removed. Mine can be removed in under 2 min if the hatch is already open and I have a screwdriver in hand. comes out in 3 peices.
NICE!
I have seen a lot of really inventive false floors for making sub boxes but yours takes the cake!
How much work/ time/ and $$$ did it take? Point being is your design something i can do (with my very limited knowledge of FG)? I could build the box completely out of wood but i can see the form fitting appeal of the FG...
I know i promised pics of my current setup but i just got a new puppy yesterday and was not able to get to the car... but i have time today so ill make it happen!
Beaner - ill also take apart my current box and see how big/ tall the cones are on the 12's.
FP - LOL thanks i strive for eye catching titles!
I also did some more digging in the galleries and found these great set ups. I have PM's into each member to see if they could give us some in site.

Ichon (chaz) will probably respond, he does not check in here as much, but is very active on CICCI.
Irwin totalled his several years ago and to the best of my knowledge, does not check in.
Just a little info I thought may help.

Ok in order from top to bottom.
1: this is the over view, you can see how the box sticks up and how much room is taken...
2: the space behind the box that i currently have the Amp and Cap sitting
3: close up on the cap, its a 3F Royal Blue (LOVE IT! GET ONE)
4: is my amp its a 1200w sony xplod
5: my subs, they are 1200w xplod's also
6: the room before i hit the left side
7: the same on the right...
As you can see this box setup BLOWS i really want to get a new design in the works. im going to see how i can work the 12s in the false for idea that beaner has and try a few things with the shallow 10's.

Actually ebay has probably one of the few 12" left that is new. I believe that Eclipse after going under finally sold off all of the warranty protection stock that they had to a couple of buyers. Look up Eclipse SW9122. It has a solid titanium cone and I believe it is one of the all time best subs. They will also fit in small sealed boxes but are far from shallow. They were made by TC Sounds (have the best subwoofers in existence) and there are still many subs based on this one. One of the best low end output subs ever and will take 300-1500 watts and turn it into pure sound quality and output. I bought another new 15" and have it in storage I like this sub so much.
