Default Remote start kit

Hi all,

Was looking on ebay at crossfire stuff and found this:

Chrysler Crossfire FACTORY ADD-ON Remote Engine Start: eBay Motors (item 170543813919 end time Oct-22-10 09:06:48 PDT)

It claims that it's a factory add on kit... does anyone know if the xfire ever came from the factory with a remote start kit pre-installed? Seems like it'd be nice since you can use the existing factory remote to start it.

Any experience with this one?

Thanks!

Never heard of a factory remote start.
Some have added aftermarket kits.

First off these DON't have anything to do with what came pre-installed from the factory. Don't believe their BS saying it's a factory remote start just because it uses the unlock signals to activate it.

I've installed hundreds of these remote start "piggy back" modules before....They're OK..NOT wonderful..JUST OK..

This is NOT a CROSSFIRE specific remote start. It is a generic "one size fits most" application.

It still needs the transponder Bypass AKA " The Valet Key LEFT in The CAR"
If our cars came with a valet key it would be much easier. And more cost effective.

The brand isn't that bad... nor the price. but anyone that says they're an "AUTHORIZED DEALER" when the item they're selling doesn't have authorized dealers...I would be kinda weary of spending money if I wasn't positive of the tech support or refund policy...

but that's just my .02

Soundcreations,

I read in a thread a while back where you were trying to have valet keys cut so a remote start system could be used on the XF. Is there any way you would possibly come up with a 'kit' of sorts for members interested? You seem to have the knowledge and vendor relationships necessary to accomplish something like this, any interest?

Thanks,

John

Thanks for the very detailed responses! As with most things on ebay, I figured this was partially a "scam", I just wasnt sure.

As boiler pointed out, I would certainly be interested in something like this!

John, there really isn't a kit for something like this. You only need three things, remote start of your choice, a DEI 556U immo bypass and a spare key that you don't mind tearing apart. You can get the 556U's for under $20 all day on eBay and the like. You can also find them in stock at your local Best Buy if they have an install bay. As for getting a valet key made, you can't just go and make one. They have to be ordered from the dealer and everyone I've dealt with ended up being more or less a waste of time as the 4-5 dealerships I tried to get to order me one either just ordered in the regular switch-blade key or they said it wasn't an option even when I had the part number. I looked for it but it's been 2 years since I was working on the nokeygo setup and I'd have no idea where to even start looking for it. Sorry. That being said, the wiring in this car is just a fun time as you have to tear into the doors, the driver side dash, the center console and the trunk. Not like your run of the mill domestic where you can get everything from under the dash.

I have remote start on my car, and the company was able to modify my remote so my panic button(useless in my opinion) was able to be my remote start, and as far as I know there is no valey key for my car. unless it doesn’t have to be in the ignition or anywhere that i'm aware of haha

Voyager, we would ALL love some more info on this, sounds like a pretty trick setup, as I have no use for the panick button either.

Is yours a manual or auto?

I got mine done through a small company called street styles. They do a lot of custom work. I'm not sure what kit it was though I believe they hacked the kit up quite a bit to get it to work with the button

Would you happen to have any contact info or the name of who you worked with, I think it is worth a call over to them, maybe even a drive over if the price is legit.....

Is your car a stick or an automatic?

My thread from before was because 90% of my clientele owns higher end cars (Mercedes,BMW,Porsche,Ferrari,Audi..and X-Fire of course..)And when they want a remote start/security system to compliment the thousands of dollars they are spending on their stereo and performance, waiting a couple of weeks and having to provide all the other BS they want for identification reasons...Is NOT in my customers best intrest so................................................ .......
To answer your question..YES I Will have a "KIT" that I will put togther for Forum Members that they can use with any remote start and I will be offering remote starts as well. And as RCOMPART pointed out you could just get a DEI556U..But in my experience those tend to fail every once in a while too...And not to mention who really has an extra key? So instead of throwing another $20 out the window for the 556U and a couple hundred for the KEY you'd be ripping apart...I will be making the bypasses with the chipped transponder for $100... The company I am getting the programmer from is the company that makes it for Mercedes/Chrysler/BMW and I have to go through an extensive background check and not to mention a little over 8k for the programmer itself... Which will be money and time saved in the long run.

I will need at least one key from the vehicle to copy the transponder code and turn around should be minimal..it takes about 20 minutes to make the bypass then it can be shipped! I was told it takes 6-8 weeks for the background check and I'm already on the begining of week three... So..just in time for winter!..lol

And NO this isn't going to be a one time bulk buy..It will always be available.

I had a remote start on a car at one time and the transmitter was so powerful it would start the car fifty yards away.
If the modified OEM fob, which has a very short range on it, was used it would not be much good at all due to the limited range.
If you have to go out into the cold to start the car and then come in and wait for it to warm up it would defeat the purpose in my opinion.

I didn't think about it, but this is true, my car won't lock the doors from more than about 20 feet away.

It's still nice to have it warm up without a key left in it, but it would definitely be preferable to have it have more distance than what I'm getting for the door locks.

Dave, you raise a very important point with the comment about distance. The last remote start I had worked about 200-300 feet away, but it had a small antenna that mounted by the rear view mirror to increase the distance. Maybe something like this could work?

My Python SST has a one mile range... Hehehehe

Definitely wasn't cheap, though. I'm actually considering getting the add-on so that I can start my car and control it with my iPhone, but that would be another 400 bucks. Damn my obsession with technology...

In an episode of Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson demonstrated that by putting the remote against his head the range of the remote was increased.
I tried it with mixed results.

The problem isn't so much the antenna on the car side..it's the limited output of the remote.
