Error Code 8
Error Code 8
Recently had a keyless entry/push button start system installed. It has worked well for two weeks. Now when I go to start it, error code 8 shows in the window and it will not start, until I repeat the starting process for up to 10 times. I will take it to the installer, but wanted to have an idea of what it might be before I go.
Thanks and Happy New Year!

I guess you still have to put the key in the ignition, so why not turn the key as well.
We had this stuff in the forties and fifties on older cars and we were glad when we got turnkey starts.
Playing around with this wiring is asking for trouble anyway and whats to say the fault does not lie somewhere else.

Re: Error Code 8
By keyless entry I mean that I leave the key fob in my pocket and as I approach the car it unlocks, I get in and press the push button and the car starts. I push the button and the car stops. When I exit the car I just walk away and the doors lock when I am about 10' away.

Re: Error Code 8
So you had to modify the steering wheel lock? Or do you still put the key in and turn it so the wheel unlocks?
Huh. Interesting.
Anyway, I'd say its time to take it to the people you paid to have this done. Again, if 180 does not know anything about "error codes" in the window, I don't know who would.
Rudy, maybe?
Personally, I dont' think I have EVER heard of such a display. I'm at a loss. From this point on, I'm only here to learn.
EDIT: Just read Bluecoupe's link above....

Re: Error Code 8
I had the unit installed at a shop. Somehow they disconnected the steering wheel lock, but it is still up under the dash if it ever needs to be reinstalled.
The odometer display goes blank for a few seconds and the wrench symbol and "8" appear and then it goes back to the odometer.

Edit, that 8 is actually a B.

Re: Error Code 8
When you follow the reset procedure, make sure you turn the key all the way to the on (run) position, not just the accessory power position. It's easy to just turn it to that first stopping point, but that will not reset the FSS.
1. Turn key to the ON/RUN position.
2. Within one second press the ****/button twice.
3. The present status for days or distance is displayed.
Within 10 seconds turn the key to OFF/
LOCK.
4. Press and hold the ****/button, while turning
the key to ON/RUN again. The present status for
days or distance is displayed once more. Continue
to hold the ****/button.
After approximately 10 seconds, a signal sounds and
the display shows 7,000 miles (Canada: 11,000 km) for
approximately 10 seconds.
5. Release the ****/button.
1. Turn key to the ON/RUN position.
2. Within one second press the ****/button twice.

LOCK.

5. Release the ****/button.

Re: Error Code 8
I thought you had a single wrench to display "A" and two wrenches meant "B".
Are you guys saying a LETTER also appears? I've never seen that and dont find it in the manual.
My display always shows a multiple of 100 miles (100, 200, 1100, -100, -300 etc.)
On the other hand, I just KNEW there were no "error codes" displayed there... at least I THINK that is the case.

Re: Error Code 8
As a learning exercise, I'm gonna let my FSS 'run out'. It's down to 700 miles now.
A change is not actually due, I did a change before the fall Dragon (to Mobile 1 5W50) and that was only a few thousdand miles ago.
I wanna see what I get...
