How can I determine what audio system my car was built with?
Sorry if I am asking a question that has already been answered, But I have been searching the forum and have not found an answer.
I am new to this forum ( and Crossfire ownership), purchased a Graphite Gray SRT-6 Roadster on Saturday!
A previous owner installed a Blaupunkt St Louis MP56 headunit in the car, I am contemplatig modifications/upgrades to the audio system and would like to know if anyone knows how to determine what system the car left the factory with.
I may even consider trying to restore the OEM system to the way it originaly was, as I prefer my SRT-6 to remain bone stock.
Thanks in Advance, and sorry for the long post!

Standard radio is available from $50 or so on eBay, nav radio is about $100+.
Nav radio works on CDs and is at least ten years out of date, get a Garmin.

There is also an amplifier under where the passenger's feet go, most likely, it was left as factory when they put the new head in.
You ain't from around these parts, are ya?
Some of my posts have gone over 1,000 words - and that was just to tell people about my new girlfriend.

SRT6 came with one of two options.
Infinity system with out Nav which utilizes a 4 channel amplifier feeding a set of MMD components in the doors and a pair of dual coil subs behind the seats.
The upgraded system swaps out the head unit for one that has navigation and uses the same speaker and amplifier system.
The Limited uses the same options with the exception of the entry level black on black manual trans model that simply used the non nav radio and door speakers

Thanks for the info everyone, and yes i'm new here on the forum, hope to be around here for a long time with the crossfire.
So I guess that without having the original head unit there is no way to really know (and since the speaker/amp setup is the same it really doesn't matter unless I decide to put a factory unit back in.

The SRT6 came with a regular radio, the nav radio was a dealer added option. This applied to all models of the Crossfire. The 2004 models came with the wiring already installed. Installation of a nav radio was that much easier because of it.
When the nav radio was added, either by the dealer or later by the owner by himself or through a dealer some wires had to be added. If those wires were not added then your car never had a nav radio in it.
Sometimes the antenna was left behind when the nav radio was removed as it was awkward to remove or it was forgotten. The added wires would also be left behind.
Navigation Install.

It would have had one like mine.. non nav .. or nav. the only way to tell would be if the nav unit antenna was still in place. There's a thread on the antenna install if you care to do a search and pull yours to see.
Mrmiata, thanks - I'll search for that thread, at this point its just curiosity. I want to know how my car started its life... I kinda like the blau the USB and 3.5mm plug pulled out into the glovebox is a mice touch as well. If I go back to factory, based on what I have read the unit with nav and changer control would likely be best since I could add the iPod control to it.
I can understand by all means. I like my Clarion with the blue tooth.. but yours does have nice features too. I was actually looking for that model to no avail last year before I ran across the clarion.

You wanted proof and here it is as nobody would bother removing those two wires. Any other way would be a guess.

The presence or absence of the navigation antenna proves nothing. The only real proof is the presence or absence of the two wires added for the nav radio by the dealer or someone else. Those wires are shown in my PDF for the nav install. Selling the nav radio would be best done with selling the antenna as well, so it may have been removed.

Just curious :
Why did the NAV head unit / amp use the speed signal wire and the backup signal wire,
and the non-NAV did not ?
Can you wire these to the non-NAV and see any benefits ?

MrMouth, your logic is deplorable. The presence or absence of an antenna proves nothing, think about it.
The only real proof that a nav radio was fitted is if the two extra wires that were added are there still there, as no one would bother to remove them, but they could remove the antenna as it has value.
You do not have a nav radio, you have not installed a nav radio, and you know nothing about how to do it.

I never added one of these wires as I could not find the wire with the correct color on it to splice into. It was the reverse wire and everything seems to work OK without it.

You always have a hard time accepting YOUR not the final authority on things?
I guess the presence of an antenna just means the deal fell through on Ebay for the HU..

Or squeeze this between your ears.. NAV unit was removed.. owner didn't want to jack with removing the antenna.. WOW WHAT A CONCEPT!
Need to type that slower so you can follow along?

Olady .. think about it. IF there is a Nav antenna left in place.. It wasn't because someone couldn't find the readily available thread to finish the install which I have read but know nothing about.

The presence of the sensor wires would be the best proof.
My post #8 spells it out.

Agreed 180..
I was just noting a quick pull of the unit with a glance for the antenna would be a quick.. "Yep it did". That's all, instead of deciphering the pin outs, which would be the next "conclusive" step if the antenna wasn't sitting in there.
It's all good, we just got a little twisted around on basically the same thing.
