I can't imagine that there could be much sound quality gained in that little space to warrant an extra $100.00. Not in a Roadster.

In a roadster is where you'll want to spend more on better speakers. With the top down the cabin sonics are a whole lot different then in a coupe. Although I'm not in a roadster, I did splurge on some higher end JBL P660C 2-ways. Got em 1/2 off during last years Black Friday. The mids go low enough to be subs and complement the OEM woofers nicely. Paired with a Blaupunkt with the OEM amp and the music quality has improved 10-fold. Mind you I did have to do some modding (cutting) to the speaker opening to fit the larger magnet. But well worth the trouble.

With the top down, I am listening to my exhaust anyway..... Music is for when I get bored! I can hear my stock radio now with caps in the doors. Once I get those out..... I'll be good to go..... I think.

Ok, so doing my install and I am trying the get the tweeters [stock} out of the plastic holder so I can put the new ones in. Is there a trick to getting the tweeters out? Also, the stock tweeter has a resistor soldered to it. Was this how it came?

I actually found an insert that fits perfectly in the door trim in the box of the new infinity speakers. It snaps right in place but I wrapped it one time with electrical tape to avoid any plastic on plastic vibrations. 1 Layer of tape and it still fit with no plastic on plastic buzzing.

The new speakers sound amazing. I used 3M professional undercoating and sound deadening spray to insulate the inside of the door cavity and the inside of the door trim. I was too lazy to line it with dynamatt. I had to let the car air out a bit but the speakers sound awesome and the doors appear more solid now.

I'm trying to replace my door speaker with upgrade Infinity 6022i speakers. How do I get the OEM speakers out of their special contoured mounting piece that attaches the speaker to the door? The speakers seem to be glued in and won't budge. I don't want to break that plastic mount part . . .

Hey Dog, I really can't tell but is there a set of 'pins' on that plastic mounting 'box' that is either 'melted' or 'pressed' onto holes in the speakers? If there is, simply narrowing those 'pins' might have them slip right off. If (also) they are simply pressed on, there may be foam or some type of 'vibration' absorbing material between that speaker frame and the plastic. Good luck!

UPDATE: I sought out a a professional to install the Sony XAV-7W 7" flip up screen stereo system into the rescue roadster. While there the owner showed me how to remove the OEM infinity door speakers from their contoured speaker mount piece. Basically you just carefully pry all the way around the perimeter breaking the glue bond until you can pop the speaker out.

I also had a bought a new amplifier and had it installed while I was there. It's compact and pretty powerful . . . a DS18 CANDY-4DR which easily fits into the OEM mounting location.

Now I also had them order new door speakers, tweeters and subwoofers. I go back Monday to have everything installed.

Oh the never ending quest for perfection . . .
