Default Active spoiler mod in progress, I'm after ideas???

Right my pair of self lock programmable timer relays will arrive tomorrow and I have tracked down a copy of the BCM pin out so I'm all set as to what wires I need to tap into to trigger it up and down.

The advise I'm after if anyone has any ideas is I want to use the unlock/lock of the car to trigger the spoiler up and down but today I was power probing the central locking pump in the boot thinking I would find either a trigger + (12V) or - (earth) as I can work with either and I couldn't find anything of any use there, so if anyone has any ideas where I can take the triggers from I'm all ears.

Failing that I'm going to have to go the easy route which is to use the ignition as a trigger so it will deploy on start up and retract on shut down which is ok but I really wanted to use the central locking as I think it would look more trick on the blip of the remote.

Maybe tie it to the fog lights, or something else that lights when unlocked.

Check the pins on the locking relay in the under hood fuse box.

Thanks for the idea but UK spec don't light up the fogs or at least mine don't.

My indicators flash but they flash for both lock and unlock which will conflict with the 2 relays as I need 2 separate triggers one for lock and one for unlock.

That I might be able to work with.

Do you know what relay or a picture indicating what one it is?

My autodata through work has very limited info on the Crossfire

Maybe a pneumatic switch connected to the vacuum/pressure line for the locks? That could detect when locking and unlocking, most likely you would need to open the Central Locking mechanism and get a signal from the internals, maybe the pump motor itself.

Well it looks more complicated than I was hoping but it hasn't stopped me.

I looked at the locking flasher relay but because it activates through the one terminal when locking and unlocking it wont work as I need 2 separate switched sourced

I've had to come up with a different approach if I wanted to still activate it off the central locking so I ordered a couple more components a spdt (single pole double throw) micro switch with 3 terminals (NO, NC, COM) with this I'm going to fabricate a set up under the door card so that it can be switched by the door pin that moves up and down this will give me my switched 12V in both directions being a double throw switch so one way (NO normally open) it will feed 12v to one of the self locking timer relay and then the other way (NC normally closed) it will feed 12V to the other self locking timer relay thus giving me what I need to move the spoiler in both directions.

The other item I had to buy was a DPDT (Double pole double throw) relay I need this because I'm unable to feed power up each wire to the spoiler with it still connected to the BCM so the dpdt relay will be switched via a switch 12v ignition feed so with the ignition off the spoiler circuit will be isolated from the BCM and the spoiler will only connected to my relay set up then once the ignition is switched on the dpdt relay switches and then re connects the BCM circuit and isolates it from my relay set up this has another benefit because the doors self lock when moving off this will switch the micro switch which in turn activates my timer relay but it wont be connected to the spoiler circuit so the spoiler will be unaffected.

Wired up like this will give me control of the spoiler both via the remote central locking with the ignition off and then with the ignition on I can then still use the interior dash switch and use the speed activation so best of both worlds I can also fit a concealed switch to deactivate the remote spoiler activation if wanted so it wont then move when locking and unlocking.

This all sounds complicated but really it isn't the only thing that might require some work is the fitting of the micro switch which until I get inside the door card is an unknown but I'm sure I can fabricate something easily.

The raised spoiler increases the gas mileage, with the price of gas in the UK I would not think it is a good idea, but it isn't my money.
When I left the UK in 1964 I was paying 4 shillings and four pence a gallon at the cheap gas station down the road from me. If you felt flush you could add Redex or something like that to the gas.
Gas in Canada was cheap at that time but not anymore.
When you went to some gas stations back then they gave you things so you'd come back and they cleaned your windshield and checked the oil.
Now days you serve yourself and think you are lucky if the gas is a few cents cheaper than yesterday.

Running costs are not an issue for me, in fact the crossfire to me is such an incredibly economical car my last 8 cars have been mostly V8's

4.4 V8 BMW X5
B10 Alpina 4.6 V8
350Z GT4
L322 Range Rover 4.4 V8
ML55 AMG
RX8 231
Chrysler 300C
CL55 AMG

Right I now have all the components needed to carry out this modification and I'm all set to get stuck in Friday afternoon....

I beg to differ Dave.

I guess you should have said it increases Gas Kilometerage, since the metric method is inversed.

If you go the +12 trigger on startup, there is a hot right at the panel where the switches (spoiler switch) are. Does the spoiler control (switch) a +12 or is it a signal to/from the BCM? If +12, you can use that 12 supplying the cigg lighter to a relay, as it powers on when car starts. you can then use the spoiler switch to 'override' that sequence/relay if the need arises (ultra minimum of parts/wiring if done right).

.

Thanks for the info, I've now installed it and I went with fitting a micro switch in the door as a trigger because I really wanted to be able to raise and lower it with the remote locking.

Here's my thread of it all installed with pics and videos:
