Water damage to my amp? Only right front plays
so i had water damage due to clogged drains that killed my fan motor and now I realize that i only have a RT front sound from the sony. All 4 channels are working at the factory plug so it must be a fried AMP? Is it plug and play if i buy a used one from Flea Bay? Any suggestions or things to check before ordering?

WHY did a new amp not fix my issue of only one speaker playing? I am not that good with this stuff but I check all 4 channels coming out of the radio and had juice. This car is new to me and I would think that I should have sound out of several speakers, correct? What i am saying is out of the sony headunit i have 4 channels that have power before it plugs into the factory plug/adaptor. I just replace the amp and still only have sound out of the passenger side door speaker. If i have 4 channels going out then I should have sound in all 4 of the speakers in the car or are the little speakers on the back wall just for looks in these cars? I would be happy with the door speakers but dont want to pull off the door panel for nothing. Help PLEASE.

The speakers behind the seats are the woofers, but they are not treated as such by the amp. It is only a 2 channel amp.
You most likely have a connector problem to the amp board, or a broken wire.
The amplifier boards are plug and play.

Wait. . . the amp is only a 2 channel amp? I had read a sticky that it is a 4 channel I thought. Still would like to know why i have a dead channel . I checked all 4 coming out of the radio (left front/rear & right front/rear) and had power and they used the correct plug to work with the factory plug So all 4 channels have power. I assume Power is going into the amp since none of those wires look like they have been clipped or messed with. SO it could simply be that the wire came off the door speaker? I wonder how the amp handles the two rear channels sending all that power to them? I have been reading how guys are clipping wire 17 and 19 . .blah blah, LoL at my age I cant hear anyway but I do want sound from both sides of the car at least. Sucks that I bought another amp for 100 bucks only to find out it did nothing more than the one in the car so that is going back and I am back to square one. This is not something I mess with much and the Sony Head Unit is nice but If I take it to a stereo shop they will want to install a new unit for tons of money. I wish I could know that power is going to the drivers side speaker before pulling the door panel.

I said 2 channel cause Mark ( pizzaguy ) said it. He has worked his entire career in electronics, recently years for Kenwood, so he should know.
Personally, I don't have a clue, and I still say radio/television is pure magic.
As to gettogethers, one is in progress now in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and is a yearly event.
The other is "the Tail of the Dragon" at Fontana Village in North Carolina, but that is in doubt this year as the place has closed permanently.
I am with you friend, I know NOTHING about how a stereo works BUT I do know I like to have it in what I drive. I have read the best bang for a buck right up and that went right over my head honestly. If I thought it would get me sound on the drivers side I would do the mod right now with a mag light strapped to my head! Sadly the amp I bought did nothing for the left side and I am at a loss as to where to start or what to do. I may pop that panel off and jiggle some wires in hopes of another XF fix just to see if I can pull another rabbit out of my ***. Good news is I have no unwanted lights on my dash after a month of ownership. I am getting " test pipes" in place of my OEM cats in the morning and may cut out for a road trip either to Nashville or maybe to the Houseboat on Center Hill Lake since I have put less than 50 miles on the car since the day I bought it. Enjoy the eve friend and thanks again for all the help with my car
I really think this one is a Keeper but I do say that about them all . .In the last two months I had a C4 Vert (drop top Vette) a Honda Coupe EX=L V6, Saab 97x ALL wheel drive with the Chevy 5.3 and a Hybrid Highlander along with a few Infinty . I have come to realize that these cars are fun but can be very expensive if anything breaks. I have been looking for a SRT that needs some love, if I found one I would buy one in a minute and have two. I dont like that my car smells like a crayon which I have found out is the headliner so maybe that will be my next project. Who knows . .

Still only one speaker. I thought i had a water damaged amp so I replaced it. SAME DEAL. I started reading up on the amp and just installed a new head unit only using the front channels, same damn thing, the big door speaker on passengers side. No way the wiring is all bad to all of the speakers/twitters round things in the door and back wall. I have the Kenwood coming and really need help to finish this project. Help please. I need to finish this project so I can do plugs, belt, Trans and rear end service! I know I am a NewBie but I am learning quickly Jeti
Stop making this so hard.
Here is the "what it is" concerning the factory sound system.
1) The head (AM/FM/CD player) is a two channel device. Its horrible, it should have never been put in the car and those who built it were borderline retarded.
2) The amplifier is a four channel amp. It's not a bad little amp, but not really high performance.
3) Four wires run from the head to the amp.
....... 2 wires for the left channel
....... 2 wires for the right channe.
At the amp, each set of wires are split into four wires, so the head's left channel drives two channels in the amp:
1A) Left door speakers
1B) Left rear speaker
And the right channel drives to channels in the amp:
2A) Right door speakers
2B) Right rear speaker
This thread explains it all:
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...-channels.html
Unless you buy a working used Crossfire amp, buying ANY amp means some re-wiring. I suspect your door speakers (both of them on that side) are OK, but your rear speaker has died due to age. They can be re-strung, tho I've never tried it. As to why the OTHER side does not work, could be the amp or the head.
You can get NICE audio out of these cars by doing this:
Replace AM/FM head with something modern.
Run four extra wires to amp (so you can have four channel sound).
Replace the factory amp with a modern four channel amp.
Replace rear speakers - take out those damn dual-coil things and go with something more suitable and common.
Cost will be around $500-$1000 depending on how 'nuts' you go. My JVC head was $85, there are some nice amps for less than $100, speakers can be $10 to $150 each and labor will run at least $200. Can you fix what you have? Probably. Lift the mat up on the passenger side - is there water damage to the amp? If there is NOT, you probably have a bad speaker or two and maybe the head is bad. If you see water damage to the amp, I"d just start over with a whole new head and amp - forget the old wiring, water damaged connectors and pins are a waste of time - go to a sound shop and tell them to start over.

And I got my new top installed!
How COOL is that, a new top at the Hampton Inn! I always wanted to do the top on my Vette, you could buy a new one for less than a grand but the labor Killed you.
I have already replaced the amp but it did nothing. SO I replaced the head unit today with a 200watt cheap unit just to see if I had working speakers. I have the Kenwood KMR-D768BT Marine CD Receiver that will be here next week SO IT has to be that I have a few bad speakers so that is what i am going to work on. Doors and Rear speakers, that way the only thing that is not new is the amp . Would the 200watt Kenwood 768 drive the speakers and sound decent even if I bypassed the amp?
I am in a town that does not have a good stereo shop like the old days . . no ****. They all just try to push the big shinny wiring for better sound . .blah blah . I would rather rewire the entire car rather than deal with that . Your right . . I am starting over. New Kenwood Head unit and onward I GO !!

You stated the Kenwood 768 is a 200 watt unit. Crutchfield says :
So you are figuring the 50 peak times 4 ?
I'm not sure that means peak watts per channel, or total of 50 peak watts for all 4 channels combined.
I find it hard to believe that a 200 watt device can function on a 15 amp fuse ....... ( 15 amps X 12 volts = 180 watts )
Mark ?
built-in MOSFET amplifier (22 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channels)

Please understand that I am just reading the stuff on the box, I ended up buy a Kenwood Marine like the Op, its a Kenwood KMR-D768BT Marine CD Receiver with Built in Bluetooth KMRD768BT, I have removed the old unit and have the front going into the plug and I am running the REAR L/R wires from the tuner to the Amp hoping I can figure out which wires to clip for them. I will be replacing ALL the speakers because I believe I only have the RT door that even works. It will look good with the silver face and it can BT my guest phone. Thanks for all the help.
Sorry to hear about the water damage to your amp, that's a tough one. I had a similar issue a while back with my car stereo after some unexpected rain leaked in. It turned out only the left side speakers were working properly. After checking everything, I found out the amp was fried too.Buying a used amp sounds like a good plan, but before you do, maybe check the connections thoroughly once more just to rule out any loose wires or corrosion. As for mold remediation, when I had water issues at home, I called in a mold remediation san diego. They were quick to respond and did a fantastic job cleaning up. Just make sure whoever you choose is reputable, like the folks at that San Diego company you mentioned.

Congrats on your new top. So I am having a problem with my right side cutting in and out. The previous owner did swap the head unit. I have looked at the amp and wiring in the passenger side. The connectors and wiring look good. My question is this: how hard is to run new wiring? Are the channels accessible? I have a roadster. How difficult is to run to the back speakers?

It's also pretty easy to run new wires from the back of the AM/FM head to the amp.
YOu just gotta take apart the trim from behind the seat and on the floor, passenger side. Not at all hard to do.
I ran new wires to my rear speakers, cause my car is a Base model and had no speakers or wires back there. Not hard at all.
