Default Good day/bad day

Good news, I came upon my twin on the highway yesterday (Aero Blue Limited Coupe - spotless) and we drove for a while together. What a beauty! I mean the car, not the driver you wise guys.

Bad news, coming back a rock smashed into my windshield and chipped it. Just above the armature joint of the right side wiper. I was so pissed. It's about a 1/4 inch in diameter, not terribly deep, but I know the inevitable crack will start if I don't get on it now.

Ok so what to do:

A - leave it alone
B - patch it and see if it holds for a while
C - Hello GEICO! I wanna talk to that little lizard!
D - Sell my Crossfire 'cause it ain't perfect anymore

I say "B" with a call to "C" to make sure I get this covered in case.

Ok my trusted advisors, what do you think? Smart remarks always accepted, but remember be nice, I'm wounded right now!

E. Chip it from the inside so there's a little whole. That way you won't have to run the AC and you'd save on much need gas mileage.

But seriously call your insurance. That's why you pay for it.

Sorry to hear that.
Yes insurance should be the solution but I'd check first with a windshield technician or service. Because it may be (at least for a while) solved for not too much. The reason I'm saying this is that I had an issue like this on Jetta couple of years ago and of course I called the insurance. Their resolution was a repair not a replace. The windshield is still there, the chip is less visible and it didn't increase. But the issue is still on my insurance record and it seems that even when I change insurance they still consider it (although was not my fault). Now, looking in retrospective I think I should have solve it w/o calling the insurance. If at least would they have change the windshield, but they didn't. The insurance I was using by then was Progressive.
I hope this would be somewhat helpful.

I am sorry that your baby got injured - less then perfection sucks! You know, in Florida, if there is a crack in the windshield, the insurance company has to replace it - and it doesn't cost you a dime. And believe this or not, if you use a particular company in the area, they will even give you a box of steaks! HELLO! Get a crack, eat steak from a box!

But personally, since you welcome the comments, I really think you should get out of the way of flying rocks - you and GolferGal must love those rocks...
I mean, its not like the car isn't fast enough so that you can swerve out of their way!

I would get it repaired if possible. I've had several chips repaired on various vehicles and never had one crack out any further. I would put a piece of tape over the chip so that it doesn't get any dirt inside the chip and try to keep the area dry. The less junk in the chip, the better the repair bond will be. Also, this should help the repair be less visible than if you are looking at a bunch of dirt that is now forever bonded into your windshield.

Thanks guys, decided to call my insurance co. just a matter of record, incase this gets worse. We determined to look at the chip determine if it can be repaired (to my satisfaction) if not, I'll just get it replaced. They're coming to the house in the morning. I'll get a before and after shot for to look at.

Deductible? $100 = Geico.

Sorry to hear about the chip in the windshield. I too have Geico, but as Sharon stated, in FL by law the insurance company must replace the windshield without charging a deductible. Either way you choose to go, it seems like Geico will repair it to your satisfaction.

Keep us posted on how the repair/replacement goes.

Its a comp claim dave, won't go against you. I'd get it replaced, just tell them you want a dealer to do it. Most repairs I've seen end up splitting anyway. As for your deductible, I'd ask about a "0" deductible. Its just a few dollars more every six months, then you pay nothing. Call me if you get stuck.

Thanks guys. They came and repaired it yesterday morning...no charge. Guy who did it says I lucked out and that he thought the patch will hold. I can see it if I squint, but you wouldn't notice it. Geico says that if it cracks thereafter, they'll replace it.

I'm still happy that it hit my windshield and not the front end...that rock was moving! Sharon, I work on my flying object avoidance techniques in the meantime.
