Default Trunk

Anyone else have a problem with their trunk hatch? I just purchased my SRT-6 yesterday and any turn or any bump I hit my hatch shakes and makes some really annoying noises. Not sure if I need to take the car in, as I can hardly take it.

There is an old TSB on this rattle issue, which is a common problem. Do a search of this forum; you will find a wealth of information and suggested home remedy fixes. Good luck.

When you open the rear hatch, you'll see a black rubber stopper on each side of the hatch. It's held on with a torx bolt. I think it's a #14 or #20 torx screw. Loosen that screw and slide the rubber bumper down a tiny bit (towards the car). Tighten the bolt. Do the same for the other side and you'll have the rattling fixed.

Not neccessarily, sometimes the bottom latch is wrapped with a few turns of duct tape as well and this really cures it

I got my SRT from Ft Lauderdale in 2011 and the latch had been done with silver duct tape, I have not touched it and it is still in one piece today. On my old NA I just adjusted the hatch stops and it was fine after that. I think that normally if you can just get the adjustable stops set properly you do not need the tape.
Strange thing, the SRT came with clear stickers where the stops hit the body and the 2004 NA did not have them and I added them as the stops damaged the paint. I guess Karmann noticed at and added them later.

The clear stickers on the SRT have not moved and can hardly be seen, there are no marks underneath the stickers so I assume they were there from day one.
On my NA I put a couple of pieces of sticky backed rubber on the body of the car and they slowly got moved because of the way the stop hit them. So the I had the bright idea of putting a piece of that roofing rubber sheet onto the stops themselves. It gets pushed into the grooves on the slot and does not move and you can only see it if you know it is there.
