Default Check Engine Light - HELP

I have a 2004 Crossfire Coupe Limited (40k miles), and recently the Check Engine light has come on (after I filled up the tank). First thing I did was check the gas cap, it was fine, but the light is still on. I thought maybe it was poor quality Gas so I put some of the fuel cleaner in that tank and the next day the light actually went off. But it only stayed off for about 2 hours, and now it's back.

While the car is warm (after driving for 15 min or so), if I turn off the car and try to start it back up it gives me trouble and won't turn over. It take about 4 tries until if finally starts back up. It starts just fine on cold starts.

Other than that the car runs normal! Before I take it to the dealer to be fixed, does anyone have any advice or has anyone experienced this? And how much did it cost?

Thanks in advance for your help!

-TP

Maybe your ECU needs an update. See this TSB for '04 models: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ead.php?t=6506

Mind, that there is a kind of safety feature. If you turn off the engine you need to turn the key to the very end to be able to start the engine again. It's not enough to turn to ACC only and then back. It's a Mercedes thing.

Have you considered a tune-up ? Just a silly little thing like getting your plugs replaced, or even checking them for carbon build-up ? I don't know, I'm just an old hick from the woods but if you have 40k miles on your car, perhaps routine maintenance would be in order... BTW replace the oil while you're at it... And leave the ECU alone...

Thanks for the info... I am taking it to the dealer on Monday to get it checked out.

In reply to the first response, I know that you cannot start the car without turning the key to the very end, it is completely different than that. It acts and sounds like it will start but just never turns over.

And In reply to the second response, I just had an oil change and routine maintenance performed about 1,000 miles ago.

Regardless... I am taking it in to get checked out!

Thanks again,

-TP

Do you mean that the starter is engaging (relay clicking) but not cranking the engine (turning over), or that it is turning over but not firing? If it is the former then it may just be a sticky starter motor/solenoid when it gets hot.
