Purchased an '06 base coupe 3/3/07 from small local dealer in Caldwell Ohio. Included in a partially opened plastic package in the trunk was the front license mounting bracket, the "all purpose tool', a small sealed plastic bag containing the license bracket mounting screws, and 4 oblong rubber plugs. The larger package also contained a vague content identification packing slip. Said slip vaguely depicts some windshield wiper attachment parts, which I assume the dealer had to use to install the wiper blades. The "all purpose tool" and the license bracket are self explanatory. As is the fact that the owners manual was included in this package. The packing slip shows the 4 plugs to be installed somewhere on the underbody, near each wheel opening. My assumption is that these are to plug shipping tie down locations and the dealer was to install them. Is my assumption correct?

After reading here of bad dealer experiences and my own bad ones over 40 years of car buying, I guess I'll just install them myself. To add insult to injury this same dealer provided me with a title having numerical errors, and has failed to correct within the life of the 30 day tag which I will be renewing tomorrow. On top of this I just found out from a person who rents a property from me that after paying this dealer over $430 for an oil and filter change/ major tune up including spark plug wires etc. on his Dodge trunk, that his new oil is black and the wires never were replaced.

I doubt I'll be taking advantage of my 3 years of free oil changes at this dealer, or having any service or warrantee work performed there.

 

the rubber plugs are placed in the front & rear lower wheel well areas... closest to the lower rocker panel area (kind of up underneath).

i had some pics posted in the past... they are now no longer available for viewing... i will take another set for you later today.

they are intended to keep water from getting inside the frame of the car.

So now since the vehicle has been driven in the rain, am I to assume water is in the frame, thanks to the dealers ineptness. Would putting it on a ramp allow it to drain before installing plugs? Would requiring the dealer to drain and rustproof be a possible after the fact solution?

 

****! I have those rubber pieces in the glove compartment of my '04, I had no idea what they were for. Since i just got it 4 weeks ago, i haven't driven it in the rain very much. Andrew, please post those pics so i can take care of this...damn!!!

 

this rubber plug is located in front of the rear wheel underneath the car toward the rear rocker panel...

this plug is located in the front side of the front wheel well area... you will need to turn the front wheel entirely in order to locate the area...
