Warranty Questions
Ok guys,
Just bought my coupe, 2004 model, in-service date of 6/12/04.
I am the third owner.
What are my options as far as an extended warranty? I've got a bout a month to take care of it, and would like to get it figured out.
I've seen a few posts saying that the 7/70K warranty can be transferred, is this true?
I've also seen the link to chryslerservicecontracts.com
On that site, it asks about the car having a 3/36 or a 7/70 warranty. As far as I know, I am not eligible for the 7/70K warranty, but the car DID have one at one point. So, do I select the 3/36 or the 7/70?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I did a search, and came up with a few various things.
Wasn't sure which to believe. One post said something about a guy paying to transfer the 7/70 warranty. One dealer I spoke with said that you cannot transfer the warranty.
Mixed answers - thus asked my own question to try and get it straight.
I'll keep searching in the meantime.
Thanks,
SQ

ShawnQ,
The 7/70 powertrain warranty can only be transferred (for a fee) from the original owner to a second owner. It is not valid for third or subsequent owners.
However, the original 3/36 warranty should still be in effect provided the mileage is still within the limits.

Click "warranty" to get the details for the Crossfire.

When I bought my XF it had >40K miles on it. I purchased, direct from Chrysler through the dealer, a 5 year 50K mile warranty that started the date I purchased the vehicle. It covers 5,004 parts (I believe it's called Maximum Care Warranty) which is basically bumper-to-bumper. The cost was rolled into the total purchase price but I believe it was about $1,600 to 1,800. To me it is worth it. No worries for a long time.
Probably no help here, but just an FYI:
I also just got a '04 Coupe Limited, last month. It was a Chrysler certified car, a lease return making me the second owner - 36k mileage. The "certified" window sticker seemed to indicate that I received an 8/80k warranty with the car, and I bought the extended care for another $1,600 (again, rolling it into the purchase price). I hope I'm still smiling' down the road like I am right now...

in '05 the limited became available.
enjoy that new crossfire ~
Gee, I don't remember seeing someone's name or a specific company name on the CARFAX sheet - but I still have a copy. I'll go look - I think all it said was "sold to lease"... I'll edit this post when I have the data.
EDIT: The CARFAX just says : "Type of owner: private lease" - whatever that tells you...
According to the CARFAX, they had the car for three years and three months, then returned it to the dealer (leased and returned to same dealer I purchased from).

If it is a Chrysler Employee/Executive Lease, they are the first owner. The Executive Lease cars that I have seen in the DC area (at least 12) have all been leased for 8-9 months. I think that they are a good deal.
"Private lease" would suggest that an individual leased the vehicle.
One thing to keep in mind with respect to the 7/70 powertrain warranty is that it does not apply to vehicles leased and put into service as rentals. Someone had that question here recently. Even though he/she was the 2nd owner, the powertrain protection wasn't transferable.

While I'm sure that there are policies about all the various warranties, I don't believe that any of them are absolutely firm. If you are working with a Chrysler dealer, do just that - deal. In the end if they want to sell you a car they will do what they have to do to seal the deal. They will figure out a way to give you (or should I say sell you) what you want. My experience over the past many years has been to get the best warranty for the period I plan to keep a car. I am willing to pay for peace of mind because I have seen and heard too many stories about how much even minor repairs cost.
If you have built relationship with the folks in your service department, I find that I can talk to them on a personal level and ask about various cars, how many problems they've seen and what they are, etc. The majority I've spoken to tell me to go with the extended warranties even though they don't have anything to gain from telling me that. All they do is point to the wall where the labor rates are posted and that's enough to convince both them and me. That being said, when I asked about buying a Crossfire my service rep said "Don't do it!" but when I asked why not, they responded that it was "too small." He preferred a Monster Truck because it made him feel safe. But he did reassure me that they had people trained to work on Crossfires and that they really didn't have a lot of problems.

Early build 04's carried a 7/70 powertrain that stayed with the car. IN other words, it was transferable to any number of subsequent owners, and there was no transfer fee. DC changed that policy for most of the 04' and later Crossfires to a 7/70 transferable to the second owner for a $150 fee. I believe the cutoff was 10/03 build date.
