Unhappy Car in an accident

It wasn't bad at all. No injuries to me or the other driver, just the car. Typical blind spot collision. The lady (in her mid-80s) didn't know I was there and was trying to get into the turn lane to make a left. Which by the way has an extended solid yellow/slashed line that she thought was the turn lane, not the lane that had the "arrow left" ONLY written on the lane. We were the only two cars on the road in that area at the time. I would have avoided the collision had she not thought the diagonal solid yellow lane was the turn lane.

Anyway she ripped my bumper a third of the way off and dented my fender. Obviously it's not my fault but it's my only mode of transportation and who knows how long it's going to take to fix.

I'm going to the dealer to get it all done correctly. I don't have a camera for pictures ATM, but I'll have some up tomorrow.

It really sucks but it could have been worse. This is another reason why older folk 70+ should take written and driving exams so things like this do not happen.

Her insurance should pay for a rental car.

I know it isn't a very popular subject with many, but people over 70 must have additional drivers tests to renew a lic. Now more than ever before, think how many baby boomers will be hitting the 70+ age range at one time. It won't be safe to drive a car without risking an accident. One good thing is older people in general drive more slowly so the damage should be less than getting hit by a teen. Even good safe drivers make mistakes.

does she have insurance. i think you only get a limited time for a rental anymore. but they should be able to get the parts in a short period. explain to them you have no other mode of transportation;.

Gator, glad you are ok. Maybe you should consider a new SRT front bumper.

PS How was the UF homecoming?

Glad you are OK, the car can be fixed and you should be entitled to a rental.

I think he has an SRT6 bumper he was doing his the same time I was doing mine. I wonder if the insurance company will pay to replace the srt6 bumper or only the oem stock ltd bumper?

They probably won't have problem if you just let them know its cheaper than the oem bumper.

I think they replace what was damaged, not how it came out of the factory. So if I had an SRT bumper that's what goes on.

I might be able to drop it off and have them assess the damage and then hopefully I can drive it until they receive all the parts and possibly paint the bumper and fender (that's if they do it "off" the car). Who knows, I'll keep updating.

Funny thing, I had a little incident with a parking pylon over the summer that messed up the paint on the bumper and I also had a scratch I accidentally put on the fender when I was installing the SRT bumper. Sucks that the car got hit but I'll have a newly painted front-end after everything gets fixed. I might be able to get the driver-side fog light replaced as well (if they think it was a part of the accident) since the inside bulb cover popped off of it.

All I know now is that I'm going to Xpel the front of the car so I don't get rock chips on a freshly painted bumper.

Sorry to hear about your accident but at least no one was hurt.
Cars can be fixed, people sometimes can't be.

Went to the dealer today to get the estimate. Came out to around $1,900 in total. It's a preliminary estimate because they're not sure of what they might find that's damaged when they take it apart.

Pictures are being uploaded and posted in a few

So there's some good news. The car is going in to get fixed on Monday and they say it's only going to be a 3-day job. The other woman filed it under her insurance (to my surprise) since she wanted to initially pay it out-of-pocket.

I'm really just glad it's all over and done with (on the insurance end).

Make sure you wait at least 30-45 days for the paint to fully cure and outgas before you have the Xpel or 3M paint protection done.
