Cabin Filter and Base Coupes
So according to to the 2007 and 2006 vehicle comparison on the chrysler website the base coupes do not have "air filtering." But my car does have the filter (I bought a charcoal one to replace it) but after 4,000 miles the original filter looks clean. Is it just there for show on base coupes?
Finally got the charcoal one in and installed it last. The original looked clean but upon further inspection it did contain a lot of leaves and other things. So the base coupe does seem to have some form of filtering.
I have an 07 base coupe, I'm trying to determine if a cabin air filter is in the car, or if one can be installed.
How did you gain access to where the filter was.
I looked under the passenger footwell area, and there is a plastic perforated piece there with no obvious access.
Should I start unscrewing stuff, or can you give me some hints or directions.

70GT6,
Thanks for the information.
There is nothing under the passenger foot well on my 07 Base Coupe other than a large perforated piece of plastic which covers the entire area.
It seems to be held in place by two screws right behind the glove compartment.
Can't see the fan, or anything for that matter.
There is supposed to be a kneee airbag on the 07's and maybe that plastic shield has something to do with the bag... don't know, but I'm not going to play around removing stuff that could go boom....
I appreciate the reply,
Bruce

If you are taking your filters out and they are mostly clean, why cant you just blow them off and re-install? Or just drive without one. Like he said, it looked mostly lke leaves etc. Just asking.

There are 2 screws that you remove to drop the perforated panel that you are seeing. Then you will be able to see the base of the fan/motor, and filter base (an the clips holding them in place).
As for cleaning the filter I guess you could - except one type of filter is charcoal made to filter oders - when these go bad your interior has a "pickle juice" smell (someone else came up with that but it is fitting)

70GT6,
Thank You, Thank You..
Removed the two screws holding the perforated panel in place, pulled the panel down, found the air filter box. undid the two clips, and lo and behold, not only a box for the filter, but a charcoal filter installed......
Huh! and in a 07 base coupe.... No mention of a cabin air filter on anything printed..... or the window sticker..
Well, I won't have to worry about getting a filter for a while.. I only have 2K on the car.
Thanks to everyone for all the information that has been posted . It is a treasure for a newbie, and I appreciate all your efforts.

I've got an 05 base and it came with a cabin filter. I found out when I went to install the new one i purchased because i thought i didn't have one. Those of you who installed a charcoal filter, do you notice any difference in the air quality? where did you purchase it?
+1 on the question above me too, is there an improvement with charcoal and where did you guys get it?
That is the only mention of the filter on page 116 of 04 owners manual. Thats it..... no mention of how to clean or how to access. Service manual has no hits for "dust filter" or "cabin filter" either. How odd.
Dust Filter
Nearly all dust particles and pollen are filtered out before
outside air enters the passenger compartment through
the air distribution system.

I love amazon, thank you for the link 70GT6, although it does not say anything about it being charcoal, I assume it still is correct?

P3870 is a Particulate filter.
what button do i push to turn the cabin filter on and how can i tell if it on does it filter whats in the cabin of the car. for example if i was smoking a ciggerette would the smoke filter out thru the filter in the car?
Cabin filter is always on. It filters all air incoming from the outside through the venting into the car. It works on air coming in, not smoke going out. Not sure about if you recirculate the air.

About 6 inches toward the center of the car there should be a 2" x 8" (about) rectangle piece of plastic held by clips similar to those on the fan motor. Sliding the clips releases the cover and reveals the filter. Pull down to remove filter (if there)

once you remove the lower cover/panel under the glove box & passenger foot well area.
this is what you see...

you need to slide back each clip (off white color) to remove filter cover... then pull filter out (it stands up on end).
