Splash guards
Splash guards
Finally got a break in the weather yesterday So I took my car for a drive. When I got home the rear fenders were covered with road crap (even though the roads were dry). I have done a search on the forum for splash quards. Not much there! Are there any splash guards available for our cars?
Re: Splash guards
Never seen them. But it's not too hard to get a flat square of good looking black plastic and fashion your own. A guy on the neon forums designed a template and cut them out on a CNC machine (or similar).
The only thing is, even if you limit the direct splash off the rear tires, the way the air moves up the back of the car will still lift dust and spray onto your rear bumper.
Worth a shot though.

I had given this a thought at one time but there is such a small amount of body behind the rear wheel that I didn't think it was worth it. I actually would rather have some on the front to keep crap from hitting the rocker panels a little better. I don't know of any made for our cars. I did a little checking around last summer. I had mine out yesterday too. 115 miles although it was still clean when I got home. Had to dodge only a couple wet spots. I have managed to drive mine at least every 3 weeks all this winter without the need to wash the car. Just a quick detail in the garage to get a minor amount of dust off.

And as for the point about truck owners, I live in Ala-by-god-bama and it's a "Badge of Honor" if you can only see out of a 12"X18" smeared slot of a windshield for the mud!
And to h### with seein' out the back! Already been there!
Re: Splash guards
the best idea is to use a clear 3M film (bulk piece) and cover the entire rockers and add pieces behind the wheels... this is what i did and it eliminates any chips from forming on the effected areas.
doesn't help with mud... but watch for those puddles and stay on the road.
here are some pics of the applying stage to my 330i...
