Question Crank Sensor

Hiyall ! Cars been runnin' great ! So here I am at Stater bros gettin some food and when through shopping jump into me beauty and crank her over to get home grubbin. Nope, it just aint a gonna happen, tries like hell to start .... Finally fourth time starts and there's that darn yellow "check engine" light starin me in the face. Call up the stealership make appt 8:00 a.m., get in there at 9:00. Finally works over no call forthcoming, start over to the stealership and THEN they start with the computer readout business. Hadn't even touched it til that point. Sheesh ! Finally, 1-1/2 hrs later tells me it's the Crank Sensor. That make sense guys?? What the heck is a crank sensor. Tried to look it up in the online manual to no avail. Is there really such a thing?? Feel like they're messin with me. Any input?? Thanks !!

The are not messing with you. Mine did the same thing at the track. The CPS in on the back of the engine by the transmission bell housing, drivers side. It is held in by one bolt and just slides out. You can buy it (~$80)and replace it yourself if you have an E8 socket and extensions. Remove the connector, remove the bolt, pull the CPS. Install in reverse order.

Section 14-33 Fuel Injection of the SRT6 Service Manual shows where it is and how to remove/install it. You can get the service manual from the sticky at the top of the SRT6 forum.
