Default Dealer work done - Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!

I took my Crossfire into the dealership this morning to have the dreaded O-ring on the valve for the transmission replaced. Everything seems to be running fine. In and out in under 2 hours. I drive just over 20 miles and suddenly the spoiler deploys and wont go back down, the Check Engine light along with the ABS, ESP and another notification light all come on. What the crap did the dealer do to my beloved car!??!

The wing goes up if the battery is unhappy for some reason.

Curious what dealer did you take it to? Northgate, Kings ??

Sounds as if the battery is going south on you. James

Try the reset that is detailed in the owners manual ESP/BAS reset. if that doesn't do it have the battery checked. A low tire will also set off the light so I'm told. If none of those work it could be the "steering angle sensor" which went bad and did basically the same thing in our mercedes except there is no spoiler. I've also had this happen in the Crossfire where the reset worked.

Reset worked for me back in August. had the same scenario...panicked a bit...did the reset...and all was well again. I hope thats the same case for you. But, as said many times already, the battery could be ready for change.

I am curious how the ESP/BAS system would make the spoiler malfunction? James

James -

I went to Jake Sweeney in Tri-County. The repair work itself was fine. But this seemed very goofy to me. I was at a bank in the drive thru when everything started blowing up on me. The car drives fine and I'm not getting any angry beeping or messages. I know its not the tire pressure as I've had that issue in the past with nails and screws in the tires.

I'm going to give the ESP reset a try and see if that does anything.

PLEASE let me know what comes of this. I have had the same issue, minus the CEL. I am having the BAS/ESP and ABS lights lit constantly and the spoiler stays deployed and the light on the spoiler button blinks steadily. I have tried both resets (disconnecting negative terminal and replace then do the full left to full right so it can 'learn' the stops) and nothing. I am going to pull apart the sensors in the wheels to see if any moisture got in there, based on advice from a trusted source with the same problem. If that does not work, I will be checking the steering angle sensor as Pat suggested. Keep me posted and I will do the same.

If the computer detects a malfunction in the BAS/ESP system it will automatically deploy the rear wing as a default safety feature. The wing deploys for the sake of high-speed stability, if the car has ANY problems with the stability programming there's automatic deployment of the wing to offset any future liability issues because people love to sue car companies.

It's much the same as the drive-by-wire throttles in our cars........if there's a problem with that circuit the throttle will default to OFF. I'm betting Toyota wishes they had done the same thing in their cars.

Jake Sweeney is pretty reputable...I've had them do service for me a few times...if you still have problems with it, they should take care of you.

Mine did virtually the same thing ... turned out to be the right rear wheel speed sensor ! I had to have the computer scanned to figure out what was wrong. Picked up the part from MB and replaced it in about 15 minutes !

Stogey, you were correct. I finally got the time to take it back to the dealer to have it looked at. It turned out to be the rear wheel sensor. Unfortunately it took them most of the day messing with the codes to figure it out as it caused a communication problem with the computer.....at least thats what they told me. Anyway, they ordered the part since it wasnt in stock and expect it on Tuesday. I'm taking it back to have it installed then. I'm looking forward to getting my baby back in perfect shape and driving properly again.
